lovelyland, thank you for an awesome web site. I am very new to all of this and the shakes I hated the idea of as well.. But I must say I really love the nectar - every flavor and the consistency is more like a YooHoo than a powdery shake. I truly recommend this stuff. I also found pacific natural organic to be awesome . Today I made beef broth and steeped it in a tea bag like product with the flavor of my favorite vietnamese Soup VV Foods Vietnamese Beef Pho Noodle Soup Spice, 1 oz, 10 pk made my broth heavenly and I can make a gallon and put it in the fridge and just heat and drink.

I am down from 312 to 305 in 4 days.. but i was also having creamy Soups that I didnt even think about being off my prediet list. lol 3 days till my surgery!!! I am so excited

my doctor doesnt require any real pre-op diet except to eat reasonable and start to practice the new way of live such as Protein first, chew and eat slowly, low car/low fat etc. I do have an al clear liquid diet the day before.

It's weird that different doctors require diferent things. After reading about the pre op diets here, I call my doctor and nut to make sure.

good luck

Happy to help! I also recommend making some if ur own broth and freezing it in baby 3 oz or 1 oz tupperware!

1. Beef broth . Buy bones from butcher, they are usually ore wrapped in meat section. Out in pan w onion (i buy frozen chopped for this), add garlic and pepper and roast 350 for about 30-40 mins, turning bones once until brown.

Add bones and onion and any liquid from pan into large pot. Add kitchen basics beef broth....whole carton and one can beer. Add dried mushrooms (or fresh), garlic and a spoon of beef "better than bullion" simmer a few hours, covered. Add more kitchen basics broth if u like.

Uncover and let beer alcohol boil off.

2. chicken broth. Remove meat from costco or other roast herb chicken. Put carcass in Soup pot, add one bottle of chardonnay or other white wine. (it will boil off too but if u r concerned about alcohol check w ur nut.) Add kitchen basics chicken broth, better than bullion, garlic, pepper, onion, mushroom. Simmer 2-3 hours, covered. Uncover, adjust broth w kitchen basics if needed.

Enjoy! Let me know if u have questions.

My mom has been itching to help me even though my surgery isn't until August 20. We use to make home made chicken Soup and strain it many times to put onto the babies bottles. So I told her to do that and freeze them in ice cube trays. Now I have 4 freezer bags of it for pre and post op. looking forward to them.

I wonder why certain drs do different amounts of time for the diets?

liquid diet..... I didn't do any days of the pre op liquid diet. My doctor said that he normally order at least 1 week, but I did not have to do it. I think it was because of my BMI not being very high. (40.1BMI)

My doctor told me two weeks , so that I would shrink my liver and make surgery easier, plus he said a smaller liver would help me heal quicker. The liquid diet wasn't as tough for me as I expected it to be, a few times I did want a real meal but the idea of not getting the surgery if I cheated was enough to make me stop. I used opti- fast shakes, Soups and bars.. They made me feel wonderful with my diabetes because they kept it very well unde control too by the way

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
