BPC 15 Posted July 10, 2012 Just curious, I start my preop liguid diet one week from today and wanted to know if it's ok to add a banana or something like that to the blender with the Protein Shake? It adds a nice taste and consistency but wasn't sure if that would be like cheating.
Wheetsin 714 Posted July 10, 2012 What does your pre-op diet consist of? There are tons of pre-op diets. Did you get a booklet or manual of things you can have? If you did, and bananas are on it, it's fine to blend them up. If they're not on a list of things you can have, you'll need to call and ask. Pre-op diets are usually used to deplete the liver of sugar stores, which makes it considerably smaller. Bananas have about 30g carbs, depending on size, so it will all depend on what your diet allows.
Back~To~Amy 307 Posted July 10, 2012 Wheetsin nailed it. It really depends on your doctor. You got good advice to call your doctor if it isn't in the list. fruit wasn't on my list but I was told I could add 1/2 cup fruit or 1/2 a small banana to my smoothies. That being said, I never did. Good luck.
BPC 15 Posted July 10, 2012 Thanks for all the input, it's very helpful. Funny thing is, I start my preop diet the day before I actually go to the class where I will get all of the information I need supposedly.
Back~To~Amy 307 Posted July 10, 2012 You might start a new post with you doctor's name and see if anyone had used the same one. They would know the requirements.
