4 Lb. Set Back And It Sucks

Recommended Posts

Just got home from my psych consult where I learned I've gained 4.5 lbs :/ Totally disheartened since it was hard (for me) to shed the last 5 I lost. Even if the scale is slightly different than the one at my doctors office, I've still gained. So now, I have 9.5 lbs before my pre-op goal, 4.5 more before my surgeon will even look at my file (which is where I should have been today), and there's already a 2.5 month wait once I'm able to get a date.

I know it doesn't probably sound like a big deal, but all this has really taken the wind out of my sails. Just had to vent a little :)

Aww I am sorry to hear that :( But keep your chin up - and just keep slogging away. Do you journal your food and exercise? It can be a big help if you are not currently. The key to success is cutting carbs - or no processed carbs specifically, cut stuff like baked goods, bread, Pasta, rice, etc. If you can up the Protein and Water and cut carbs so they are under 50 - you will lose.

I personally did Atkins 72 prior to surgery - that is cut carbs to essentially zero. The fat will melt off, and fast.

Thanks!! I do need to be better about using MFP aaand the heat has really jacked up working out, but, come on...we know those are just excuses :) I do, however, think I just got bored with my 'diet'. I didn't have much variety, simply due to not knowing any better options, so I need to have a plethora of good options this go 'round. Wish me luck!

Just a thought.....what about following the pre op liquid diet for two weeks.....you will lose what you need...prove how bad you want this and get booked for surgery.....Losing weight is hard for all of us...that is why we r doing this.......hugs!!!!!

Thanks for the idea, but to be honest, I think it might backfire especially with a 2.5 month wait once I can actually get a date. There'd alot of time to potentially creep up and I'd hate to get booted at the finish line for gaining a little, since I'd be eating. They can do that, right? Plus, after looking thru my all stuff, I don't even have info on the pre-op liqiid diet yet, even for me to kind of follow along. What's the dealio?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
