Sleeve July 2Nd - 7 Days Post Op

Recommended Posts

Hey just checking to see if any sleevers out there have decided to head to the gym yet. If so, are you slow walking on a treadmill or riding an excersice bike? If so, which one and for how long? I am going this morning and try for the first time...Yay me...pray for me!

I started going to the Y 10 days post-op (I was in the hospital for 6 days, so my first trip to the gym was my 4th day home). I've been walking on a treadmill every day. On low-energy days I'll walk for 30 minutes, at 2.6mph. On good energy days I'll walk for an hour, at 2.7 or 2.8mph. Yesterday I introduced a 1% incline to my walk, just to mix it up a little. It was a low energy day, so I only walked 2.5mph for 30 minutes. I have my first follow-up appointment on Wednesday, and I'm hoping to be cleared to go back in the pool....I miss my Water aerobics classes. (Prior to surgery, I was doing water aerobics twice a day (morning and evening) 3 days a week, once a day 3 other days of the week, and walking the treadmill the days I only had one aerobics class. I miss the variety.) Good luck to you!!!

I was sleeved same day as you - and I am going to the beach today with my family! No Water, but playing in the sand and walking - love it!! I may not make it to a gym (I live on a ranch 30 miles from one) - but playing with my kids and going for walks are things I like to do!

I'm also a July 2nd sleever, I was told to wait until my two week follow-up to get cleared for any exercise other than walking, so be careful!

I've been walking around our neighbourhood, small 10 minute walks at a time.

Thanks! I walked on the treadmill at 1.3 speed...so it was really slow. I felt great and I will continue to walk everyday. I hope this helps my recovery and weight loss...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
