Back~To~Amy 307 Posted July 9, 2012 Prior to surgery, I heard talk about not drinking 30 minutes before or after eating. I understand the reason for that. I also heard about taking tiny bites and chewing your food to mush before swallowing it. I've been trying to do that but catch myself taking normal bites and swallowing then before they are mush. Why is it we are supposed to take tiny bites and chew them a gazillion times? Thanks!
geno5150 168 Posted July 9, 2012 The way I understand it is that you need to help your stomach break down the food now that it is a much smaller size.
I_Sd8_em 28 Posted July 9, 2012 I don't know about it being b/c its smaller in size. But maybe? I would think it is also in part b/c of decrease acid, pepsin, and other digestive juice production??
FishingNurse 1,211 Posted July 9, 2012 It's important at first because your new tiny stomach is so swollen. Ever since 5 months out I can chew and swallow exactly I how I did pre op. The liquids rule is so you don't flush your food out if your stomach quickly. (also at first so there is room in your stomach at all) (I never stuck to that rule) naughty I know!
