Needing Some Support

Recommended Posts

Hi y'all...congrats to all the losers on the bench with me! I was sleeved July 3rd and was supposed to have my mom go this journey with me. She passed away unexpectedly in March and left just me and my dad. While he has been supportive of my surgery, he does not visit with me very much/often or check on me like I know my mom would. I have had a few friends offer to come by but in the "I really don't mean it, I'm just saying it" kind of way. Even my boss didn't check on me after surgery and has yet to! I"m feeling really alone on this journey and don't have anyone I can talk to.

Anybody got a soft shoulder I can lean on?

Im so sorry to hear about your mom. I understand you live your dad, but it's just not the same. I haven't had surgery yet, so no advice to give. But I have a shoulder! I feel like I'm loosing my mom a little everyday. She hasn't been officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's, because she won't return for more tests. The dr gave her the rx for Alzheimer's patients, but she refuses to take it. So, I still have a mom, and cherish every moment.

Not to get off track, but again I truly am sorry to hear about your mom. You can do this! She is there cheering you on, I am sure of it!!

Hi. I am very sorry that you lost your mother and that you are feeling all alone! The people here can be very supportive but it doesn't always make up for real time support. You might want to make a post in the part of the board where you can meet someone in your local area. There may be someone in your area that you could connect with in real time as well as the support you can get here too.

Best of luck to you in your journey!

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I'm not sure where you are from but check with your doctors office or call around to the hospitals in your area to see if there are any support groups available for WLS patients. In my area there are three offered spread out over the month. If you can find one of those, I am sure someone would be happy to be your support buddy. Keeping you in my prayers an good luck on your journey

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
