I love menudo and pozole and they both contain hominy. I was wondering if hominy is the same as corn. Can our sleeve digest it?? Has anyone tried it?

I know that I ate corn in the cob 2 days ago and I was able to digest it. harmony reminds be of a larger corn. In fact i have read numerous stuff about how corn is not good for us and I recently read that corn is good for us. so confusing. :)

I hear yah Dorrie. Thanks for your input. I'm only 3 weeks out and hominy is something I would love to eat but I don't want hurt m sleeve. I wish there wasn't so much contradiction about foods we eat! I know my surgeon/nut/case manager all said corn was no no for life!!

Mmmmmmm I love hominy sauteed in a little butter with a dash of salt and pepper. LOVE IT!

Hopefully i can have a few bites of it again in the future. Seems like every Doc's restrictions are different. I say if ya want something try it in a small amount. If it doesn't agree with youor digest properly, then ya know not to have it again.

I had hominy just the other day (almost 7 months out), no problem. Just remember to chew it up well. It seems like the issue with corn would be the tougher skin. Hominy has no skin.

Hominy grits with butter... mmmmmm good.

I had pozole on my mushies diet. I couldn't terate the pork in it but the broth and the hominy went down so smooth. I'm not much of a menudo eater but I do love me some chicharon, it goes down so smooth, and I'm 3 months post op.

Well if grits is allowed then so should hominy. I can't wait to give it a try. Thanks for your input.

What's hominy?

It's a type of corn, usually large and white in color. If you crush hominy it makes grits.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
