Cheese Question

Recommended Posts

I've been reading quite a bit of posts with cheese recipes. I want to start trying some soon.

Is it best to use fresh cheeses or the stuff you can buy in a container (mozzarella, Parmesan, ricotta, etc.)?

Well, as I'm sure you already know the fresh cheeses taste better. Are they available fresh in low fat varieties near you?

the baby bel's are awesome! I eat the light ones all the time, even the full fat ones. I eat alot of mozzerella cheese sticks as well as the ones you mentioned. Can I also mention a cheese you might not know about called Bocconcini (I hope I spelled it correctly) anyway it's fresh mozzerella shaped into little balls and kept in Water. It has a mild flavour, is really really soft and easy to go down I might suggest this is you are afraid to try cheese first out

I prefer fresh cheeses. I hate bagged cheese, like the pre-grated stuff from Kraft/Sargento/whatever. Who wants the extra cellulose. And there's nothing yummy about yellow cheese that is white and tasteless. :)

Babybel was the first cheese I tried post-op. Shortly after I added in Trader Joe's brie bites. Then the spreadable laughing cow kind. Now I mainly go after the cheeses I like the most, that have the highest Protein. Gruyere is pretty good, and emmenthaler, Kerrygold makes a low fat Irish cheddar that's an excellent snacking cheese, etc. Of course I can't get enough real (imported, not the grocery store crap) feta.

I'm in Missouri and we have multiple types of cheese curds at any grocery store you go to. Plain, white cheese, yellow cheese, dill, peppered, etc. Are they a Wisconsin thing?

Yes, they are definitely a WIsconsin thing. I live in Missouri also, Springfield area, can't find anything near me that compares to the stuff in Wi.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
