What Amount Can You Eat After Sleeve?

What's a typical meal look like for you after the sleeve? 1/4 cup? 1/2 cup? 1 cup? Just a couple bites? Or more like 15 bites? How long do you wait to drink before or after?

I am 32 days postop and only on my 11th day of being off liquids. The amount I can eat varies just as it did preop. However, even the varying amounts are small by "normal" standards. I don't really measure my food by cups. The way I measure depends on the type of food. For example, I make a scrambled egg with a small amount of cheddar cheese. I can usually eat half to 3/4 of it before I am full. With lunch meat, I can usually eat about 2 oz. of it with maybe a bite or 2 of applesauce or other canned fruit. For a snack, I can usually eat 1 to 2 cheese sticks. One of my favorite "meals" preop was cheese and crackers. I can usually eat 1 to 2 slices of cheese with 4 to 5 crackers. Also, one of my favorite meals now is tuna fish. One of those really small single serve cans makes 2 or 3 meals for me now. Oh, and the other day I was out running around and needed to eat. I got 1 chicken plank from Long John Silver's and that was plenty.

As far as drinking, my doctor said no liquids 30 minutes before or after I eat. I have always been someone who drinks a lot all day long....especially with this 100 + degree weather. I'm still struggling with this rule.

Similar to Amy... I can eat one boiled egg or one egg scrambled for Breakfast.

I can eat 1-2 cheese sticks as a snack.< /p>

If I have a burger (without the roll/bun), then I can eat about 3/4 of it normally.

Drinking, yes no fluids 30 mins before or after. Sometimes I can have a small sip right after eating, but that is it until later.

I drink about 50oz a day. If I am not eating I am drinking!

The size of my meal would be equivilent to maybe just less than a golf ball. Or mayber 2-3 tablespoons. I am 5 weeks post op and have lost 30 lbs in that time plus another 20 lbs pre-op. When they say to chew, chew, chew thay are not kidding. I was always a fast eater and it is hard for me to tell when I am getting full. You eat a teaspoon full and it goes down OK. The next one might, too but then it is wise to wait for the food to settle because if you overfill it just isn't worth the consequences. I did it on celery w/ hummus and yesterday I did it on 1/2 a small hamburger with a carrot. My mistake was eating the carrot first. Always eat the Protein first. I ended up throwing up on that one. Eat, chew, swallow and put the spoon down and wait a while. Try not to drink because it only fills the small stomach you have left. You don't want to start stretching that out.

I am 4 1/2 mo post op and I can eat more than most. I eat .5 cups of non fat cottage cheese or 2 hard boiled eggs or an apple in one sitting. I eat 900-1500 cal per day, I think that is too high though that's what my body calls for.

i'm 4 months post op and every single meal is different, sometimes i can eat only a couple of bites and others i'm able to eat an in n' out cheeseburger without the bun, i don't eat bread.< /p>

I eat tuna salad and sometimes a can is 1,2 or 3 meals it depends of my sleeve not me.

My advice is don't push it, it until you are satisfied, don't stress if you think it is too little or to much and be aware of the signs of fullness like runny nose, burp, hiccups or any other you may have.

Eat very slow and chew a lot, that really helps and always keep your food really moist, dry food is the worst it just gets stuck and it really hurts.

I wait 30 min before and 30 or more after a meal to drink, it is so easy to do and i used to drink a lot with my meals pre op.

I'm 13 weeks out and the amount I can eat varies on the density of the food. Some of my regular meals at home are:

1 Morningstar veggie sausage patty with 1 oz cheese on top

1 5.3oz container nonfat plain Greek yogurt

3/4 veggie hamburger patty

1/2 Premier Protein bar

1 oz roasted peanuts

2 oz grilled salmon

Last night we went to Outback for dinner. I ordered the 6 oz sirloin with salad and broccoli. I was able to eat about 1.5 oz of my steak, one piece of broccoli and three bites of salad, and I was stuffed.

For me, I feel "empty" every few hours, so I end up having several small snack sized meals per day. I don't get low blood sugar episodes that way, which was a problem when I'd try to starve myself pre surgery. I have a goal of 1,000 calories a day which I rarely meet, although I come close. I almost always hit 75+ grams of Protein though. I stay away from rice, Pasta, bread and potatoes, they don't sit well in my tummy.

At 5 weeks post op I would caution you to not eat celery- its a no no food for me for life - I know all Drs are different- but you may want to check into that! :)

Here's a typical day's food for me. I've been eating pretty much this amount everyday since my 1 year surgerversary. :-)

I am 5 months post sleeve and I still ocassionaly weigh my food to make sure my intake isn't increasing. Depending on what it is I can eat about 4-6 ounces or 1/2 to 3/4 cup. High Protein foods are more filling than things like fruit or cooked veg. I can eat TONS of watermelon and it is a favorite of mine right now. I drink right up until my meals and then wait AT LEAST 30min after. When our tummies are empty, liquid flushes straight through and I have had no issues with this practice but I know this is not what we are taught...

I have never thrown up and only eat until I'm full, I don't push it. Some days are "hungry" days and I eat every 2 hours or so.

I'm just shy of a year. Tonight's dinner was a two egg omelette with a 1/4c shredded cheese, and a few pieces of broccoli on the side. I was hankering for broccoli so I did eat all of it (something I'd normally leave for last). I ate a little over half of my omelette.

I typically measure the Protein 3-4 oz plus a few bites of a non-starchy veggie. That's it.

If I have say, a premier Protein shake, it takes me a while to finish it. Those fill me quickly for some reason.

Definitely plenty of restriction at this point.

I am a year and one month out. I still weigh my food often. At this point I can only get in about 3 oz of Protein in and then 2 oz of fruit or veggie at a time. And even that amount takes me forever to get down. :)

9 months out... A comfortable meal size for me is 4 bites, depending on what I eat. But I eat often. I am never hungry. 115 lbs down. About 25 to go. I feel great.

I am over 9months out & can eat probably more than I should. So I do my best to start with Protein first. I can eat about 3-4ounces of protein, about 3-4spoons of carbs. (I.e., rice or potatoes ) & a bite or two of veggies. Because of this, I make MOSTA of my meals protein &veggies only. I do have carbs a few days a week.

I drink, right up to my meal but I always wait 30 min after to drink.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
