Mexico Vsgers Follow Visits?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

For those of you that had your procedures done in Mexico how will you conduct follow up visits? It seems like those that have had their sleeves done in the states had to see the dr a week out. Also for those that had their VSG done in the states how often do you have to go back to see the dr?

I had surgery in Mexico about 4.5 months ago. I am headed back in August for my upper giant blood work to make sure all is going well.

Also, my pcp here in the states knows that I had surgery in Mexico so he has been terribly supportive. I went to him to ask questions about 1 month out and he was helpful coupled with emailing my surgeon with regular updates. I take thyroid medication, so I've been going in for my blood work to determine my new dosage ages since losing 45 pounds, but that's about it. I have really had no major needs or problems. I look forward to hearing from others.

Great question!

I live in SC and had VSG done in Mexico. I came home and went to my PCP just so she could check me out and I could touch base with her and she would be in the loop. She was great. She thought I was a little crazy for going out of country but was very supportive,. My surgeon gave me all the info I needed to share w/ my PCP. He (my surgeon) asked that I have blood work done in 3 months and then every 6 months. He gave his e-mail and asked that the results be sent to him. I'm sure that he will communicate with my PCP if he sees a problem. I can also e-mail my surgeon if I have any questions between now and then ( I had my surgery 6/27/12). So far so good. I hope this helps. There are probably a lot more people out there that have more experiance and better suggestions.

my follow up visits are

2 weeks

1month

3 months

if everything looks good then

1 year

and then annually

If there is something the doc wants to look at then 6 months will be added and possibly 9 months out.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
