Hi my name is Fred. My wife (Kim, Married 18 years) decided to explore banding last May, Kim said you do all the research and I'll make all the appointments. I found this site and it was an incredible help to me in understanding what to expect and ask the right questions. She was banded on 8/30 and is having a rough start. I wasn't taken by surprise due to months of reading everything I could get my hands on, but I am still concerned, since I also have learned everybody reacts differently.

Thanks for all the help over the last months,

Fred

Tell your wife welcome to bandland. I think sometimes its harder on the spouses. I was 6 days out from a fill just 4 weeks after surgery when I PBed. I had a rough 5 days where I didn't eat much, etc. until I could get in for an unfill. The look of concern and worry on my DHs face was more than I could stand. I hurt for him. :)

Glad you two are doing this together. Knowledge and what to expect are invaluable tools on this journey. Hope its smooth sailing for both of you.

My hat's off to you, she's so fortunate to have YOU as her major support. My DH is not the least interested in my band, but he's thrilled that I've had pretty good weight loss.

Cheers to you and your wife.

Welcome! I hope your wife is doing better. The beginning can be kinda rough. I never figured out how folks could get banded and the next day shopping! It only goes to show how different we truly are....

It really will get better and better...it is very hard to complete the post-op diet requirements, and it is important to do it. You are very good to her, to be here and be such a support to her!

Get her in here, if she is having a rough start, this is the place to be, there is so much support here. I could of never been so successful with my band if it were not for LBT and it's members. We are a family here :(

Congrats to your wife, & she is lucky to have you and your support

My friends who have been banded just kept telling me "the first month will be the hardest". It helped me get through the rough stuff!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
