I've Never had issues with heartburn. Today it has been constant. I took a Zantac. Is this normal. It'll be 2 weeks on Monday since surgery.

I'm 3 weeks out & have been taking a Prilosec in the morning & 1 at night & I still have major heartburn! Some days I think I'm going to die. It has been better today so I'm trying to hang in there. It can't get any worse that's for sure.

I had GERD (acid reflux) before surgery and right afterwards it was really bad. My Dr had me up my dosage of prilosec. Well about 1 1/2 weeks ago it just sort of went away. I talked to my Dr at the one month appt last week about it and he said because the stomach is so swollen after the surgery the first couple of weeks are the worst. I'm hoping since I have lost weight that maybe my GERD is now gone!

I had issues with acid reflux immediately following surgery (largely due to inflammation in my stomach so bad nothing could pass through). My surgeon routinely prescribes liquid Zantac, twice a day, for all his bariatric patients. I take mine religiously (2tsp twice daily), and have had no issues with acid.

I dont have my follow up till the 17th, so if this keeps up I'll call and see if they can call something in bc all I have is Zantac pills.< /p>

It is totally normal. I was given a prescription for an acid reducer to take it twice daily. I've been lucky though. I've had no issues at all with it. If you can't get control of it with OTC medicine, call your doctor about prescription strength acid reducer. I hope you feel better soon. Take care!

Does anyone know why VSG patients have acid reflux problems after the surgery? I have never had any issues with acid in my past history... my revision surgery is scheduled for September... is this something that happens to a lot of people?

I had some minor issues with it. Since surgery in June 5th, I've had zero reflux and I'm on no medicine for it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
