jeepfreak 12 Posted July 8, 2012 I'm 3 weeks out & have been taking a Prilosec in the morning & 1 at night & I still have major heartburn! Some days I think I'm going to die. It has been better today so I'm trying to hang in there. It can't get any worse that's for sure.
karenb4729 309 Posted July 8, 2012 I had GERD (acid reflux) before surgery and right afterwards it was really bad. My Dr had me up my dosage of prilosec. Well about 1 1/2 weeks ago it just sort of went away. I talked to my Dr at the one month appt last week about it and he said because the stomach is so swollen after the surgery the first couple of weeks are the worst. I'm hoping since I have lost weight that maybe my GERD is now gone!
lollyfidy1965 402 Posted July 8, 2012 I had issues with acid reflux immediately following surgery (largely due to inflammation in my stomach so bad nothing could pass through). My surgeon routinely prescribes liquid Zantac, twice a day, for all his bariatric patients. I take mine religiously (2tsp twice daily), and have had no issues with acid. Back~To~Amy 307 Posted July 8, 2012 It is totally normal. I was given a prescription for an acid reducer to take it twice daily. I've been lucky though. I've had no issues at all with it. If you can't get control of it with OTC medicine, call your doctor about prescription strength acid reducer. I hope you feel better soon. Take care!
scubadottie 84 Posted July 10, 2012 Does anyone know why VSG patients have acid reflux problems after the surgery? I have never had any issues with acid in my past history... my revision surgery is scheduled for September... is this something that happens to a lot of people? I have never had any issues with acid in my past history... my revision surgery is scheduled for September... is this something that happens to a lot of people? I had some minor issues with it. Since surgery in June 5th, I've had zero reflux and I'm on no medicine for it.
