Hey everyone, I'm Rose, 26 from the USA but I have been living in Turkey for about 3 years now. Looking back i can't remember a time i was thin. A few years ago I started taking Phentermine and went from 215lbs to 145lbs...It was wonderful! Then I stopped the pills and here I am back at 183...

I met with a few doctors here and have decided to get VGS. Scheduled my surgery for September 14th...How do you exlain to someone that you are nervouse, excited, and terrified all at the same time? I haven't told my family yet mostly because i'm afraid that they wont understand. I know that I dont have much weight to lose but I know that i am on a destructive path and i want to correct it now.

So thats my story, I just wanted to say hello to everyone and i look forward to reading your stories and sharing my successes :)

Welcome to the boards Rosebee. All the emotions you are experiencing are completely normal. Almost everything can relate to your feelings whether they had surgery yet or not.

I thought I had a handle on my emotions until I went shopping for supplies for my surgery, and that put my nerves into overdrive.

I haven't told many people myself. My mom was the least supportive and very negative when I told her. That almost crushed me to the point of backing out. My husband who is very supportive kept giving me the strength to move forward. My dad backs me 100% but is worried like any father would be. My Aunt also knows and supports me cause she knows how I have struggled.

My best friend, gave me the honey, your not fat enough to have surgery speech. So you will come across those who will stand with you, and those who will stand in your way. To alleviate the that complication I have chosen to not tell anymore people til after my surgery. The negativity can wear a person down and make them weak and I choose to leave that part behind.

I wish you all the best on your new journey of life. Any questions you have just hit people up, this is the most friendly, supportive boards I know of. Everyone is willing to share and help in any way they can.

I have been lucky enough to have my Whole Family on my side with this if it wernt for them i probably would have backed out cuz i am a lil scared but im sure it's normal they push me everyday and are very sportive! ......But you need to do what you know is best for you your fam is just scared that something will go wrong and dont understand What is most important is yourself and you need to take care of your first dont let anyone bring you down cuz no one really knows how we struggle everyday with our obisity and its easy for them to judge....... if this is what you really want you go girl and get ur VSG!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
