I'll Just Blame It On The Diet.

Recommended Posts

I was just reading through the insurance forum, because I'm pre-op and I'm always on the look-out for info about Cigna. I noticed a thread about someone asking about applying for Medicaid to cover their surgery, and someone made the comment, "I'll just keep my opinion to myself." It hit a nerve and I'm about to go off, so I'll just blame it on the diet.

How dare anyone on a SURGICAL WEIGHTLOSS FORUM judge anyone else for trying anything humanly possible to lose weight and better their lives. Really? To anyone who thinks they're better than someone else, take a look in the mirror, hun. You're obese or morbidly obese just like the rest of us. Who cares if you have private insurance, because it may or may not cover wls anyway. Sorry ya'll, but I am a nurse who works in a county hospital, and taking care of the uninsured and under-insured is my passion. That comment just really pissed me off. No one is better than anyone else here, whether you have insurance or not. That was a rude comment made by someone who is so much of a coward, they don't even have a pic of themself on their profile. Ok, I'm stepping off of my pedestal.

I think its pretty sad that anyone would have to apply for medicaid anyway. The cost of insurance is very prohibitive, even if you get it through work. If you're a family of 4, that's a chunk out of your check. Not only that, but how ridiculous is it that a lot of private insurance companies don't cover the surgery?? They don't give discounts on WW or other weight loss plans either, BUT, they will cover a drug that wont help us make a lifestyle change. It just perpetrates the lie that drugs will magically make us thin and the drug companies will make more money. There's no excuse for anyone in this country to be uninsured, its the antithesis of a "Christian" nation to have so many people struggling alone in their health. I applaud anyone who will do whatever it takes to make themselves healthy. And for the naysayers, would you rather have the "govt" pay for $10,000 in surgery? Or 10's of thousands in the coming years for diabetes, heart conditions ect?

As a taxpayer and an insurance consumer, I have no problem with anyone getting the surgery, medicaid or not. I would rather someone get surgery and master their obesity and other health issues that to spend years using resources for all the side effects of obesity. I'm with you two. It is just wrong to deny any human being good health. In the end, one way or another, we all pay.

This means a lot to me to read this. I am a struggling single mom who has Medi-Cal and am looking to have the sleeve done. It's very easy to judge but I am really doing the best I can to make it right now, plus I am getting my bachelors degree in December.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks. :)

You're welcome. Everyone has a tough spot in their life, and I've been a single mom and went back to school as well. I'm fortunate to make enough money to pay taxes, and I'd rather it go to help you. What really burns me are people who don't have insurance, for whatever reasons, and then run up a bill in the emergency room, passing the cost onto those of us who do have insurance. That is freeloading.Kb88, I hope all goes well for you.

I agree that everyone needs help, at sometime in their life. It's the same as us needing help to lose weight to become healthy. It's amazing how some people won't reveal their faces on this forum because they're afraid of being judged for having wls, but those same people will judge someone else for needing help to pay for the surgery.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
