A little about my self. I am in my early 30's after years of poor habits and life style choices I got up to just shy of 445lbs when i was diagnosed as a diabetic. Up to that point my weight had Bounced between 375 to 420. I had tried most diets known to the human race and I was never able to get much below the 375 mark. I had contemplated surgical options but it was not until my diabetic diagnosis that I decided to get on the ball and actually explore what options I had.

A handful of my family members have had weight loss surgery of one type or another and all have had amazing success. I went to the local hospital system's weight loss clinic and started all of the pre-reqs the end of last year. I have one pre-req left, I have to have my stomach scooped(Gastroscopy). It is scheduled for the 17th, and at this point I just want to get the next 40ish days down so I can getting used to life with my sleeve.

was diagnosed as a diabetic

ertlandia

congrats on your good decision to enter sleeveland.

waiting 38 days and counting,it will be here before you know it ;)

when i enterred the hospital 6+ months ago, they stopped my diabetes medicine, and told me not to start up again til after seeing my PHP. Was taking levels - all was going well - dr. told me me to not take medicine also

my A1C was 5.5 - amazing - thats it no more meds period, end of sentence :)

in other words your diabetes could also be gone. well of course will always be considered diabetic - still take extra care of stuff like eyes, toes etc. - but that should be it.

just to say not all diabetics turn things around, the shorter time period you have had diabetes the better chance you have to lose the diabetes, medicine etc.. you were just diagnosed recently - so odds are good in your favor

i had diabetes for 20 years and now like i said no more meds and i'm walking on Water

the sleeve will help you sooo much, you'll love it. Remember the sleeve is a tool that helps you get healthier and happier.

good luck with pending surgery

kathy

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
