Try being fat and the same height as most guys.

It's always seemed to me (dating/dateability-wise) that it's better to be fat and short (awww' date=' she's so cute) than to be fat and tall.

And it has always seemed that fat guys have an easier time of it than fat women. I see my fat guy friends getting a lot more activity than my fat girl friends.

Reasons schmeasons. And yes, those are generalizations. But that doesn't mean they can't be accurate from my perspective. ^_^[/quote']

Yes I think fat guys have an easier time of it than us girls. Just my opinion

I agree with JLewis, especially for gay men. They are even more superficial (often) than straight men! I have a dear friend who is now in his 40's and he is literally obsessed with his waist size. He's been 27" to 30" waist for the 17 years I've known him and he is absolutely near panic when his waist gets "big", or 30". I'd KILL to have a 30" waist, even though I know it will never happen!

I totally agree Lissa, I think Jonathan is right. I have heaps of male gay friends and the pressure to have "The body beautiful" in a lot of areas of the gay community is HUGE. Everyone wants to look like a Herb Ritts photograph, and the amount of money my friends spend on grooming alone is astronomical. I think the aesthetic visual 'norms' applied regarding beauty are way more stringent than in the straight community. I feel for you Jonathan!

I totally think it could be an epidemic! Their are a lot of overweight people in the US especially! The report that came out in 2012 said this about the top 10 fattest countries:

1. US (SURPRISE!)

2. Mexico

3. New Zealand

4. Chile

5. Austrailia

6. Canada

7. United Kingdom

8.Ireland

9.Luxembourg

10.Finland

It also said that Asia & The US has grown even more obese by 4-5% over the past 2 years(since the study in 2010. We are the fattest nation and it is so sad' date=' the World average per person is 130 some odd pounds, the US average per person 180 some odd pounds! BIG difference!

Yes my friend I would call it an epidemic![/quote']

These people clearly didn't come to the Middle East as part of their fact finding. (I can hardly blame them... Souq explosives are hell on fat & skinny alike) 56% of the adults in this region are 'morbidly obese,' diabetes and its complications is the number one health problem, and 1 in 3 children are significantly overweight and underactive. I don't know what the average weight is here, but it's got to be at least 180... Sad, really.

Mind you, I've been to Houston... maybe it's a tie.. :)

Wow that's pretty bad! I hope to not be that bad about it. I'd love to be a 32! That is a very healthy size for me at 5'9" which will put me at about 165. I'm not a horribly vain person but I do like to look good and yes unfortunately it's always that way with a lot of gay men!

Obesity is absolutely an epidemic on our planet. Yet society's image of the perfect form is getting smaller. I've even noticed the BMI charts have changed over the years. We get so focused on size that we lose sight of what really matters: heart. That's true for gays, straights, black, white, Asian, Hispanic, and everything in between. It is sad. I was single my entire life except for two three month stretches until I met my husband. I was crazy about a guy for years that wouldn't give me the time of day because of my weight. Moral of the story is, when the "right" one shows up, weight won't matter.

Hmmm well on the flipside, my brother is gay. He is also overweight. He never says anything about it one way or the other, and he's super confident and very energetic - and never without company.

Never had a problem with the guys, so I don't know if I missed out or not. I'm more excited about not being in so much pain after getting off of work, than I am about my new look. I do have to admit, I am excited about all the new clothes I'll be buying, but I rock the plus sized clothing everday anyway. :-)

Yes physical attraction does have to be there. And yes your apperence is the first thing to be noticed. But if you put being hot above being a good person, then no matter how skinny you are, then the ugly personality will turn people off faster the being overweight.

Get mad, defensive, upset, all of the above... But I'm just speaking my personal opinion and experience.

I read an article a few years ago about "subzero" sizes being the new trend. Apparently size 0 isn't small enough (I'm pretty sure my ankle would be too big for a size 0) so designers are altering their lines to include sub-zero sizing.

Unless you're about 2'4, zero is too damn small.

My sister is a size 2. But she has a very petite frame. She looks healthy, but she is small. Now trying to get me in a size 0 would look very unhealthy. Proportionate is a big part of it. And she has a really hard time finding clothes that fit her right. :-)

I have a friend who's about 5'9 and a size 2. She can carry the 2 because although tall, she has a very slender build. E.g. she's thin (tiny), but does not have bones jutting out all over the place.

I, on the other hand, am built like a piece of Laffy Taffy. Or Grimace.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
