Been laying low , working mostly from home on union business, luckly for me . Finding some discomfort in couple of the incisions {the larger ones}, scares are heeling fine but feels like a rock under those two spots , find it alittle hard to bend to the left side. Although not feeling really hungery, feel like i could eat , following liquid diet getting sick of creamed and pureed Soups etc:

any suggestions.

Hi Shopper, unless they do things very differently, it is a bit of a long process. At lahey, you do 1 informational, then get a psych, diet, and physical evaluation. If that goes well then the surgeon sees you. If you are accepted you have to go to a once a week class X4 for behavioral, a support group at night and just before a class with the nutritionist and nurse pract.. Oh, and I should mention that they want you to lose a little wt. first. they determine how much. for me it was only 14 lbs but for others it was anywhere up to 50. depends on how "tight" you stomach is.They want to be sure you survive the table! that could be the longest hold up. I started mine mid december and just got banded 4/46, been worth the wait!!! I had a few delays with weather and travel to do the manditory things and coming from the Vineyard. good luck with the June thing, let us know how it goes.

Hey Cindyluhu...you date is coming soon, Where are you being banded? I will be at BIDMC on the 21st. Just had my gall bladder out there yesterday. It feels like a starter surgery just to get me in the mood!!

Good Luck

HI Maureen,

Who is your doctor at BIDMC? Mine is Dr.Jones. I was suppose to have my gallbladder removed back in March but I decided against it. I have gallstones but I have never had a problem with them. I didn't want to have two surgeries. I figured if I end up having a problem with the stones, I'll get it out at that time.

Sherry,

I have Dr. Schneider. I didn't have any problems with my gall bladder either, he just said it had to go....so since I was in "whatever it takes, just band me mode" I agreed. It really wasn't that bad, I am a little sore. I will be banded on the 21st and I cannot wait. I am a little less nervous now that I have had my pre-game surgery.

Peace,

Maureen

Hi Maureen,

I was banded at Norwood Hospital by Dr. Adam Glasgow on Thursday 5/10. So far, so good. I was walking around several hours after surgery. They ended up keeping me for two nights because they thought it looked "funky". So after my second barium swallow, I went for a catscan and everything is a ok! I say better safe than sorry. I wouldn't want to have to go back in a week, or month to have another surgery!

Good luck everyone. Glad to be on the "bandwagon".

Cindy

I am glad to hear that it all went well, even though it took longer than expected!! I am so excited, I can't wait to be on the other side! 8 days left but somehow I already feel better like I am finally on the right track!!!!

Hey Metalband. I was banded last Thursday at Norwood Hospital by Dr. Adam Glasgow. Good luck to everyone. PS my tummy is making weird noises, how embarassing. I know it is probably gas (cuz I'm not hungry), but I wish it were a lot quieter!

Hi all,

I live in NH (on the MA/VT/NH Border) I just got my approval call/letter Friday. I will be having surgery on 6/19 at Baystate with Dr Romanelli. I tried to call on Friday to ask a few more questions but with the holiday, the woman who helps me had left for the day. I was hoping to find out about what happens the day of surgery. My surgery is scheduled for 7:30 am, and she left a message telling me to be there at 6:00 am. Could someone who has had there surgery done there tell me what to expect during that time? I think the waiting that day will be the worst. Also, my letter stated I was authorized for out patient surgery. I thought they kept you overnight? I know I can ask these questions on Tuesday when they are back in, but I want answers now, lol. Thanks!!!!

Hello Torias Mom...welcome. I'm sorry I can't help you regarding Baystate as I had my surgery at BIDMC. I do know every facility is different and some actually do let you go home the same day as your surgery, at BIDMC we stayed overnight. Good luck!

Hi Mel,

Have you thought that your calories are too low? I know it sounds weird, but I know this has effected many bandsters. It looks to me like you're certainly having well under 1200 calories a day and if you're exercising along with that, you probably need to add some extra calories. Maybe try a cheese stick (100 cal) in the middle of the afternoon and a piece of fruit before lunch. These will help keep that metabolism going and maybe mixing up your diet will get you moving again. Also, make sure you're not drinking your calories unknowingly (guilty here!) and that you're getting in all your Water. If these don't help it could just be a really stubborn plateau. Either way, I feel for you. Hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
