Dr. Perez or other S. Florida docs

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used Dr. Michael Perez or US Bariatrics in Ft. Lauderdale? I'd like to hear your experiences - good or bad. I looked on obesityhelp.com, but there weren't very many recent entries in the patient feedback area. I live in Key West and am looking for a doc in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area to perform the procedure. I'll probably self-pay, so any feedback on that would be appreciated also.

Thanks - Dani

I do not know about Dr. Perez. But there are two Dr.'s at Cleveland Clinic in Weston who do the procedure, Dr. Rostenthal and Dr. Szomstein. They come highly recommended. I am having my procedure done by Dr. Szomstein. They require you to attend one of the seminars before meeting with the surgeon. You can call over there and ask one of the nurses, the number is 954-659-5239. Good luck!

I really like him and his office staff alot. It helps that I also work in one of the hospitals that he does surg. in. A few years ago he was the Trama Surg. also.

Dr. Perez did my lapband in August - my experience with him and his staff could not have been better. He told me he had done more than 300 lap-bands. Highly recommend U.S. Bariatrics.

My experience with Dr. Perez has been terrible! I was banded in 06 and the band never really worked right. Then I had to have my port replaced. Then every time I went in for a fill, (because the weight wasn't coming off) I was made to feel like I was doing something wrong! I would tell the nurses and the Dr that I had little to no restriction. They just blew me off and said I needed to be more diligent in my eating. Which I was. Then when I would leave, I would have restriction for only about a day and a half. When I would go back, he would check my band and it had less than what he put in! So, there is a leak. I am self pay and they aren't doing anything to help me.

My husband and I have both spoke to them, and they recommend that I have the band removed, and have the gastric sleeve! They have never suggested I have a scope, to see what exactly is wrong and if it can be fixed.

They just left me twisting in the wind! Now, I have a band, that I paid for, that doesn't work, and no help from Dr. Perez!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
