Anyone had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy done by Dr. Blaine Nease out of Cabell Huntington Hospital? If so, what was your experience?

Also, if you have had Dr. Nease perform other procedures (i.e. lap band revision to sleeve, gastric bypass, etc.)

Any feedback is appreciated. Strongly considering VSG in the next few months.

Dr. Nease was my surgeon and he is awesome!!! You'll love him. Just go to one of his seminars and hear the story of his father who died from complications of obesity, and you'll know why he chose to help people like us. I can't say enough good things about him. I had my surgery on April 25th and have lost 60 pounds. The staff at cabell huntington are also great. Good luck!

I did attend one of his seminars and thought he was really down to earth and personable. How are you feeling? What is the good, bad and ugly? How much can you eat in one sitting now? Any complications???

I'm feeling great! The recovery is pretty tough. I had pain for about 3 weeks, but only really bad pain for about a week. I can eat about a half a cup of food at a time. The only complication I've had is acid reflux that has caused me a little nausea and some pain. Taking a Prilosec everyday helps that though. I've almost lost my craving for sweets because they make you sick after you've had the sleeve. I crave fruit now. I would have the surgery again without thinking twice. It's the smartest thing I ever did.

Hi! Dr. Nease did me as well! You should come to support group Monday at 6, at the office. Marsha is hosting.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
