I"ve heard about these tests. I guessignorance is bliss. I was well addicted before then. I dont smoke, dont drink, don't even fry my foods. (although i don't eat healty either). My one vice is soda. i've also heard pour soda on fresh pork chop and you'll never want to eat a pork chop again.

AS far as the sleeve I was told the carbonation makes it unconfortable. Maybe make it flat before hand but I really don't like flat soda.

I guess I'll just wait and see. Try my best.

Great job with the weight loss!!

2 cents from the dental point of view (especially sipping all day) put a tooth in a cup of soda and it will dissolve in a couple of days.

If u r going to 'treat' yourself to soda, do ur teeth a favor, drink it at one set time and either rinse with Water or brush after.

It's like baby bottle tooth decay, constant drinking milk from bottles, taking bottles to bed and such causes the teeth to be bathed in sugary goo and they rot away.

Some ppl I know suck lemons frequently, same result as coke, way to much acid to put on it teeth over and over.

This is not sleeve related, I know, but just thought I would share.

i know its a head additiction. i am going to try and quit. i've already noticed a craving for Water that diet coke cant handle. I saw a chiropractor once who told me about how bad the asperamine (sp?) is.....started out as ant poison. and that it actually attacks your nervous system.

really need to kick the habit. i could use a patch similar to the one to quit smoking.

Really I have no problem with anybody eating or drinking anything they want to. I just believe we should all know exactly what we are consuming and what potential harm It can do.

Aspartame is really on a person by person basis. Most people it really does nothing to(in limited quantities). But my best friend for example it causes ocular Migraines in him, this is a Migraine headache so bad that he loses his vision.

And the craving for Water cannot be quenched by anything that has caffeine in it. Caffeine is a diuretic and therefore dehydrates your body & increases your thirst.

Yes, this i know. However, I would get sick off plain Water. I've been using Mio for just over a week now and I'm drinking all my required water. I just have the head craving for diet coke, despite knowing how bad it is. lol its my "cigarette" addiction. when will they put warnings on that label and make me drink it only outside lol

still going to try very hard not to ever drink sodas again after surgery.

Here's my 2 cents on diet soda and the sleeve.

The reason we aren't supposed to have it during the first few months is because of the staples on your stomach. If there is any metal exposed on the inner wall of your stomach, the soda can actually erode it and cause rust. This can cause infection and a slew of other issues (as per my surgeon). It's all about allowing our newly formed tummies to heal.

AFTER our stomachs are fully healed (around the 6 month mark) there is no surgical reason why one cannot indulge in one once in a while - the carbonation, however can cause discomfort for many, so be careful.

My personal feelings on diet soda: ONE, over ice, once in a while is okay as a treat, but daily it should be avoided. There are so many reasons for this: the carbonation and acidity can cause ulcers in the stomach lining, the aspartame in it is a carcinogen (I try to avoid all aspartame as a result of learning this), the artificial flavors and coloring are also carcinogens, and there is absolutely zero nutritional value in them.

I was addicted to diet coke for 20 years - I drank up to a (12 can) CASE a day. I suffered from severe indigestion, gas, ulcers, and a whole host of issues. I quit drinking them shortly before I started my pre-op diet and haven't turned back. I feel much better, stronger, and haven't had any digestive problems since.

I truly sympathize with those of you struggling with this addiction - contrary to believe it IS an addiction just as strong as any drug - but I urge you to be strong. You'll be so glad you did it and so proud of yourself. And your gastrointestinal system with thank you for it. :D

Think of soda a poison. Come to terms with it and get over it.

What he said. The longer you go without, the less you'll crave it. It gets easier.

I have sipped a soda out of curiosity and I did not like how it felt going down. I am however hooked on the low calorie G2 Gatorade in orange. I put it in the freezer and let it get all slusshy...so good.

I actually freeze my drinks and than shred them in the blender and eat them. If they are carbonated, the freezing kills the carbonation and it helps. It works to get me over the cravings.

Also to add i have a Soda Stream and you can adjust the carbonation to your taste and the flavors typically have less sugar than regular soda as they have sucralose in them. They have all kinds of flavors it is a great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
