Hi, I know you're looking for OTC and I'm not sure what to tell you. But I prefer to use a sinus rinse when I get allergies or sinus infections, it's just a salt mixture and warm Water, very natural.

I totally agree, a saline rinse is the perfect thing. You can even make it yourself at home. 1 tsp pickling salt (it's so fine that it disolves quickly in Water and it has no additives), 1 tsp baking soda and 1 quart of luke warm water. If you want to get more aggressive you can increase the salt and baking soda. I personally use 1 TBSP salt, 1 heaping TBSP baking soda and 1 quart of luke warm water. Use an ear or nasal syringe to flush it up eas nostril. The larger the bulb the better. I have been doing it for years and it works wonders for opening you up and cleaning everything out. It will burn for a few seconds if you have an infection but it will be completely worth it. I've had two sinus surgeries and this was how the surgeon told me to make the solution.

Get a neti pot. It is a nasal rinse that is much like the other two above are talking about. It doesn't hurt at all and it comes with little packets you dissolve in room temperature Water.< /p>

Is this a concern post-op? Are medications not safe after being sleeved? Just trying to gather as much information as possible as I am strongly considering having a VSG.

Thanks!

This is a post op concern. Like we are not supposed to take Advil any more because it's too strong or something and can give you ulcers. I know there are other medications we aren't supposed to take anymore but I'm not sure which ones they are.

We shouldn't take any medications that can cause gastric irritation like NSAID's (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Advil, Motrin, aspirin, etc are NSAID's. I am not aware of any sinus meds that have potential for that. Kathe

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
