kmbrlycool 214 Posted July 6, 2012 What OTC med can I take for a sinus infection that will not hurt my sleeve?
AliveAgain 283 Posted July 6, 2012 Hi, I know you're looking for OTC and I'm not sure what to tell you. But I prefer to use a sinus rinse when I get allergies or sinus infections, it's just a salt mixture and warm Water, very natural.
Gene1970 179 Posted July 6, 2012 I totally agree, a saline rinse is the perfect thing. You can even make it yourself at home. 1 tsp pickling salt (it's so fine that it disolves quickly in Water and it has no additives), 1 tsp baking soda and 1 quart of luke warm water. If you want to get more aggressive you can increase the salt and baking soda. I personally use 1 TBSP salt, 1 heaping TBSP baking soda and 1 quart of luke warm water. Use an ear or nasal syringe to flush it up eas nostril. The larger the bulb the better. I have been doing it for years and it works wonders for opening you up and cleaning everything out. It will burn for a few seconds if you have an infection but it will be completely worth it. I've had two sinus surgeries and this was how the surgeon told me to make the solution. justmeandmysleeve 91 Posted July 6, 2012 Get a neti pot. It is a nasal rinse that is much like the other two above are talking about. It doesn't hurt at all and it comes with little packets you dissolve in room temperature Water.< /p>
UTGal99 327 Posted July 6, 2012 Is this a concern post-op? Are medications not safe after being sleeved? Just trying to gather as much information as possible as I am strongly considering having a VSG. Thanks!
kmbrlycool 214 Posted July 6, 2012 This is a post op concern. Like we are not supposed to take Advil any more because it's too strong or something and can give you ulcers. I know there are other medications we aren't supposed to take anymore but I'm not sure which ones they are.

grannyk 58 Posted July 6, 2012 We shouldn't take any medications that can cause gastric irritation like NSAID's (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Advil, Motrin, aspirin, etc are NSAID's. I am not aware of any sinus meds that have potential for that. Kathe
