4 Days Post-Op... What Speed Is Everyone Walking?

Recommended Posts

Have been going to the gym to walk on the treadmill. How fast is anyone else walking at 4 days post-op?

I don't know how fast I go, but I have one word of advice for motivation:

Zombies!

I was still in-hospital at 4 days post-op (I had problems with inflammation in the lining of my sleeve). The first time I went to the Y, after getting home, was on day 9 post-op. I walked 30 minutes at 2.5mph. Yesterday I walked 40 minutes at 2.8mph. This morning, day 16, I walked 60 minutes at 2.7mph. The length and speed that I walk depends greatly on my energy level, on any given day. Some days I feel fantastic, and push a little harder. Some days (like this morning) I feel really drained, and trade time walked for speed. Listen to your body, whatever you do, and don't push yourself to the point of being wobbly! Best of luck to you!

I think you're doing great by taking the approach of pushing yourself when you feel it a not. I think what's most important is that you keep moving! Don't put yourself in a box by measuring yourself against other people. Do you. Do you at the best you can be. Just keep it moving!

walking on the treadmill 4 days post op

SammyJane

kiddo, i wouldn't even be on the treadmill after being only 4 days post op.

Did your Dr. even approve this? Check with him about when you can even excercise

your tummy is still healing from major surgery

take it slow and easy

Maybe, you could take short walks

good luck

I am 4 days post op and only made it slowly and carefully round our small block and THAT was too much! Take it easy, you don't want to open up any internal sutures.

I agree with Kathy in that 60 minutes at a stretch is a bit much. My doctor recommends 10 minutes at a time to total up to about 30 minutes a day. He also says to push if you want to, but listen to your body. We're in Texas, so it's sweltering hot. He says to work out in the early mornings/ Late evenings or go do the infamous MALL WALK.

Yes, even our yoga class is meeting at 6 am & 8 pm - and sometimes not at all (it's an outdoor class).

I am doing1.5 mph for 15 minutes, twice a day. I am holding on (no arm swinging) . It is way too hot to be outside! I will take it slow and steady though. Dr told me to walk, walk, walk anyway I can get it in.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
