3 Weeks Out, And Already In A Stall...

Recommended Posts

Hi friends, I was sleeved June 9th, and im in my "soft food" stage. Needless to say, in the last 2-3 days, I have partaken in some potato salad, but other than that, ive been logging my cals on mfp, and been swimming 3x a week. What can I do to break this stall?

I feel ya, since last Wednesday, I havent lost but a pound, so I wait a few days, weigh again, and im up a pound, and the vicious cycle continues. I was really hoping to be down 30 pounds by my 30 days out, but that's not looking like it will be a reality :/

I just started stalling at the 6 month mark. When I do notice I'm stalling, I basically readjust back to my original diet which was a high Protein salad for a few meals and measure everything, time myself while eating, and so on. It basically gets me going again and I drop 3-5 lbs in just a matter of days and it gets steady again.

Great advice! I do measure almost everything! I decided to go back to 2 protien shakes a day, and no more potato salad ( I fed it all to the the dogs, lol). My biggest problem is getting in my fluids. Im going to make an earnest effort to up my fluids by a cup every few days, til im at 8 a day. I know that over 25 pounds in two weeks is great, but this stall for the last 9 days, sucks!

I had the same problem for a few days. The truth is, we need to stop weighing ourselves everyday. All of a sudden, A pound and a half came off one morning. I wrote just a few days ago that I was upset with my weight loss. Then someone pointed out to me that I have actually lost a lot of weight since I started my journey. It doesn't matter what came off before or after surgery, it all counts. When I realized that I had surgery on June 11, 2012 and I am down 27 pounds since my final weigh in before surgery on June 1, I am thrilled. I am actually down 38 pounds since I signed my papers with the surgeon in November. I cannot tell you the last time I have lost 38 pounds. I needed to look at the whole picture. Now, I am continuing with the same positive attitude. This has to work!! This is why we did this! Good luck!

For a while I would stall for 2 weeks and then lose 20-30 lbs in the following 2 weeks. It was really weird to me but then I figured it was probably from my period starting again and I was holding Water weight and bloating. It wasn't until I noticed the pattern that I realized it was 2 weeks on 2 weeks off kind of thing.

Same here. I had my surgery on 6/11 so this Monday will be a month for me. I too, was hoping I would have lost 30 lbs. by then. I am actually up 3 lbs. since my lowest weigh in. I know that when I can start exercise it will help, but barely eating as we are, (especially in comparison to what was) you would think that we would be dropping weight fast.

I totally agree Deb! I do not weigh daily, I only weigh on Mondays and Thursdays. I have changed my habits as much as possible in this early stage. We are at the same stage, and you have lost a bit more than me, however, I dont know your bmi, age, height, etc. I know all of us are different, and all of us lose at different rates because of different factors. Im not beating myself up over the stall, just looking for advice from all of you kind people! Thanks for the oep talk :)

@missmachine....I'm just curious...if you're a month out from surgery, why aren't you exercising? My surgeon's expectation is that his patient's should be walking AT LEAST 30 minutes a day, within a week of coming home from the hospital. I went to the Y 3 days after getting home (10 days post-op), and walked 2.5mph for 30 minutes. Today, 16 days post-op, I walked 2.7mph for an hour. Does your surgeon have restrictions related to exercise? (I'm truly curious, given the amazing variety of instructions I've seen talked about on this site....no two surgeon's seem to have the same guidelines!) All the best to you!

I was sleeved on june 6th so far I have lost 13 lbs I am very dissapointed I went from a band to the sleeve when I first had my band I lost a pound a day.I really thought that I would have lost more by now and I am NOT allowed to do any type of exercise except walking which I can hardly do I am having total knee replacement the end of this month I pushed this surgery because Ithought it would make my knee surgery easier if I were down 30 or 40 pounds but I guess thats not going to be the case and I really dont know how I could eat any less that i am already eating

It makes sense, because the calories you get in the first weeks aren't really enough to support a lot of exercise. I was wondering if my swimming had played in my stall...

NO!! Don't stress about this! Your body is getting used to this big change, if you think about it, you are taking in wayyyy less calories than the average person....you WILL lose weight! This happened to me also and happens to almost everyone! I was so depressed for awhile, felt like a failure! But remember your basics...get your fluids in, get your protiens in and the scale will start moving! Also whenever I eat more carbs, I tend to feel hungrier, so I just resigned myself to keep the protiens the main focus, maybe have just tastes of whatever carb I thought I wanted at the moment. You can and WILL do it!!

Hi cissie.... I will be 4 weeks post-op on Monday. I have been stalled for almost 2 weeks as well. I lost over 30 lbs the first 2 weeks post op now NOTHING. I read ALL about the week 2 and week 3 stalls post-op when I was getting ready for surgery - but there's still no way to prepare for this frustration! If you do a search in the forums here for "week three stall" - you will gets lots of results. It's very common at this point in our journey - but it sure doesn't make it any less stressful. I know better than to doubt my sleeve's ability because of this but I still do! I've only been eating 300-500 cals a day too. Protein first, getting all my fluids in, etc. I know I am doing everything right, now just have to allow my body the time it needs to adjust and try to keep my sanity! :o

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
