tx_girl 3 Posted July 6, 2012 I was sleeved on 6/27 and I am east Indian. Anyone able to eat at least a modified east Indian diet? Any suggestions?
MKambalimath 92 Posted July 6, 2012 Hi TX, my husband is Indian and we used to get take out from the many restaurants around our area a lot. I'm 10 weeks out and unfortunately I still cant really have it. We aren't veg so I can have some of the chicken, and the spiciness doesn't hurt me at all, but the rice and naan and other bread type things arent doable for me right now. I'm hoping in a couple months or so
lml32937 65 Posted July 6, 2012 Ironically I discovered Indian food about 5 months ago- shortly before becoming a vegetarian and LOVED it!! I ate the most amazing lentil Soup, the naan was ok- I stayed away from the rice- I also had a lentil salad, couscous something or other and tried a peice of chicken but couldnt take the spice- Now being a vegetarian I have started cooking with different spices and such to flavor the veggies- curry being 1 of them- LOVE it!! I'm sure if you take it slow- avoid the naan and rice for now you should be ok... the lentils are FULL of protein!!
Karrina-D 8 Posted July 7, 2012 I was sleeved on 6/27 and I am east Indian. Anyone able to eat at least a modified east Indian diet? Any suggestions? I was sleeved on 6/11 . My family & I love Indian food & that is mostly what we eat at home . We were fortunate enough to live in a punjabi sector in Africa for 15 yrs & was exposed to wonderful Indian dishes ! This is what I've missed the most since being sleeved . I've had dahl masala , butter chicken , mali kofta , & swordfish tikka masala , & veg samoosa ( without the breading ) , & palak panner . It's all went down smoothly with a couple of tbs of Raitha . I've also had a mango lassi that went down so smooth I just miss my chapati's & naan ! How are you doin on eating so far ? Congrats on your new sleeve !
quietcougar 29 Posted July 7, 2012 Anything with lentils in it should be fine; also vindaloo or tikki masala. Rajma should be fine, that's got a lot of Protein. The drier dahl would be better, since we can't do naan. I would think a papadam would also be ok, that's chickpea flour, but you'd have to check into it. At least it's a little crunch. I have always loved Indian food and eat a lot of it. I have had curries since surgery and they went down fine.
