One suggestion from our support group this week was you can have refried Beans from Taco Bell. I ordered

a side dish and barely scraped the top and was full but my husband was able to eat normal and we

just sat and visited. They are high in Protein and you can have shredded cheese on them. Also, Ordering

side orders like gravy or mashed potatoes at KFC and my husband had the buffet. :)

Sorry to play devils advocate here, but I don't think any of those are great choices. Go online and check the sodium content for each of those and I think you may be alarmed. Where are you located? Is there a Whole Foods in your area? They always have an awesome selection of Soups made fresh daily. Also, maybe there's a little cafe in your neighborhood that you've been wanting to try? Be bold make new restaurant friends! I'm sure you can find some great new and healthy options with only a leeeetle bit of effort :). Good luck!

Don't be afraid to pack your own, I have some beautiful bento boxes and Soup cannisters now - to me it makes it feel less improvised. Let Hubby order, and sip away, or ask for a bowl...

Nine days out I was still on Clear liquids so when I went out I got vegetable beef Soup and just asked for the broth. Some people are on full liquids so any cream soup or pureed soup would be fine like potato leak or broccoli cheese. Tomato bisque or lobster bisque is super good too. Egg drop is wonderful. You can make egg drop from any broth. Just heat it to a rolling boil and slowly stir the raw scrambled egg in.

I made a lot of soup and even brought restaurant soup home for later. I made so much that I still have some in the freezer from six months ago. I still pull some out on occasion. They were made specifically to be high in Protein.

Cream of broccoli I think would be to fiberous at this point. You can do the egg drop Soup at an Asian restaurant. You can also try an authentic Mexican restaurant and ask for chicken soup, just ask them for mostly broth. Good luck.

Let your hubby pick and just go with the flow. Any resturant will have a Soup of the day- usually including vegetable beef or chicken noodle. If you go to a larger or fancier place, they may have french onion- which you can order w/o the yummy cheesy bread.

It may help to have a Protein shake prior to going out so you wont be tempted or over-order a bowl instead of a cup.

If you are so inclined- you can ask them to puree it or you can just eat around the chunks.

Enjoy date night!

We've gone out for dinner, even with me still being on "full modified liquids." The restaurant we went to actually had NO Soup offered....so I made a travel mug full of some yummy chicken broth, added a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder, and took it with me. When the waitress asked what I wanted I simply smiled, held up my mug, and said "I'm good, thanks!" I enjoyed my broth, and my partner enjoyed her broiled scrod and baked potato. I've been taking my own flavored water into restaurants for months....I'm no longer embarrassed to do what I need to do, in order to take care of myself. :) Best of luck!!

At the clear liquid phase and full liquid phase you are right, but I do believe it was broccoli that saved me from all the Constipation issues that seem to come up. I just pureed my Soups very well. The broccoli was in there, but not in chunks.

It just depends on what a person can tolerate. At 9 days the broth is the best, but you are on the verge of going to full liquids, no?

Thanks everyone.. Yes I am at full liquids stage now but scared :( We are leaving in about 1 hour and let's see what we find. I'm still taking broth just in case :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
