Psych Eval.

"D"-n-OK

Recommended Posts

Hi I am a newbi here to this sight and I was just wondering if most people are required to get a psych eval before wls? After lurking here for a few weeks Im thinking that these evals. must not be required or maybe they are a new thing, just curious:paranoid

I found the bickering b.s. amusing at first but, it realy has not helped with my concerns for wls and now it feels more like a "nut house". Anyway I do go to other threads, but guess what more drama there too. :D

Hi "D",

I didn't have to do a psych eval, but I was self pay in Mexico so I only had to do medical pre-op stuff. I do know that there are lots of people here who did have to do the psych eval. Hopefully, you'll hear from them soon.

Welcome to Lapbandtalk. Best wishes on your journey.

I have been around this board for awhile and on several othere.. eventually the drama will die down, dont worry about it.

MEANWHILE on to the imp question.

The psych eval is required by 99.9% of insurance companies and are not new.

They are to me for the most part, a pain in the butt. The computerized psych eval I had I felt like it was a joke. I got all stressed out for nothing but " you feel ok today, true or false" .

I got more out of the NOT required talk to the therapist than the required evaluation thing.

For some reason, the psych eval just doesnt come up alot. Dont know why.

I just wanted to say I agree about this website. I've got to where I don't even log on because I don't want to read through all of the crap people have been throwing. I stay mainly on the other forum that Dr. Sanchez has and so far NONE of this goes on there. Maybe after everything dies down I'll come back around.

I was self-pay and my doctor still required that I have the psych. eval. as well. I think it is more to determine that you fully understand what you are preparing to do, the sacrifices involved and to make sure that you are emotionally ready to have it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
