Insurance Approval Waiting Time?

Recommended Posts

I am finished fulfilling my requirements for cigna. Thankfully the diet length went from 6months to 3 months. At the moment I'm having issues with my surgeons office collecting my psych letter. My question is for anyone who has cigna, once my paperwork is submitted generally how long does it take to get approved or denied? I've been looking everywhere for information and haven't found any. Today I contacted the surgeons office to let them know I wanted VSG. The lady asked me why and said she would discuss it with the Dr. She then told me she never received my psych eval letter even though it was faxed to their office July 3rd. The last thing she said is "we'll be in touch". I know I'm getting off topic but should I be worried? Is it bad of me to call back next week to see where it stands? Is it too late for me to find another surgeons office if they don't send my paperwork to cigna in a timely manner? Maybe its just jitters something will go wrong or be misplaced

Hi, I think you should call no later than Monday afternoon. Some offices only work half day on Fridays, so it may not do you any good by calling tomorrow, but be sure and call Monday. I have Cigna as well, and all of my paperwork was supposed to have been sent today. I'm going to call on Monday to make sure it was sent. I'm calling Cigna first, and if they didn't get it, then I'm calling the surgeon's office. Be your own advocate. No one knows how important this surgery is as much as you do. Good Luck!

I used Cigna as well. They responded within 5 business days, but only notified my surgeons office since they submitted on my behalf.

Well I was scheduled to be sleeved tomorrow and the insurance coordinator from the hospital calls me this morning in my way to pre-op and tells me she screwed up and accidently sent the insurance company approval for the band not sleeve when my whole chart says sleeve and now I have to wait and hope she can get it fixed today! So angry!

Yea I would be upset. My coordinator keeps losing my paperwork. But that's not even as bad as getting someone approved for the wrong surgery.Glad it was caught before they tried to operate. Best wishes to you and I hope they fix it fast.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
