Locking Threads????

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have a question. I remember when the mods were constantly locking threads and people were upset because we felt we should have a place to vent, etc. So, they created the "Rants and Raves" forum. Supposedly, it is an enter at your own risk thread. In fact, it says,

Lap-Band Talk Rants and Raves (NEW!) Gripe, complain, moan, fight, rant and rave. Enter at your own risk!

So, lock threads on other posts if need be, but it doesn't seem right to do it on this forum when it says this forum is for griping, complaining, moaning, fighting, ranting and raving. If you don't want that going on, then maybe this forum needs to be completely eliminated.

I am not trying to be difficult, it just doesn't make sense. Besides, I have PMS and am feeling a bit witchy right now, lol.

I actually agree with Susan on this one.

The forum does state that it's for fighting. It doesn't state at what point it should 'stop'.

I personally don't like the concept of the "rants and raves" forum (despite spending time there on some threads).

We used to just use the lounge for the off-topic conversations and if they got 'heated' they would be locked.

I'd rather revert back to locking the heated stuff and eliminating rants and raves.

I of course am willing to deal with whatever the moderators decide. I think though that the drama running unchecked isn't healthy for LBT.

When people are getting hurt and being treated terribly, it's time to close threads. If you want to vent about about things other than people then that is fine. If you read the LBT rules you will see that that is not allowed here and will not be tolerated.

I too thought that was the reason for creating the "Rants and Raves" forum.

So . . . why WAS it created?

Maybe the Rants and Raves forum could be changed so it's threads wouldn't pop up into the 'current' or 'recent threads' area. That way, if you want to fight endlessly, mindlessly, psychotically, about . . . WHATEVER . . . you'd have to go find the fight and it wouldn't impact newcomers and members who don't want to hear it, don't give a damn, need a break, wish you'd get a life, stop picking on "my best friend," he said, she said, you said, I said, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Don't get me wrong, its not like I'm not watching the train wreck as it unfolds . . . but I'm staying out of it. Not out of fear of retaliation, I can hold my own, but I think when it escalates to the level it has, its unhealthy for the community. I guess I subscribe to "What happens at fight club, STAYS at fightclub."

Wow, how long did it take you to type all those "blah's"?. That must of took patience. Or did you copy and paste, lol?

I agree that what has been going on is insane here on LBT and it is like poison. I believe some people have taken it way to far. However, this forum was created with the idea that anything goes. If it doesn't, then the forum should be eliminated.

I agree with this. I don't think it should be locked unless it is in an inappropriate spot.

Thanks, Diane. I really do think it would all go away if they would just.... go away!

This is probably going to offend some people (doesn't seem that hard to offend people on here to be honest with you) but, do words that people online say really hurt you that much??? ( I don't mean you as in anyone in particular either, just in general). If someone is "harassing" me or calling me names to my face I just wouldn't go where they were or go near them. Same here, just don't open it if it bothers you. I know it has been said over and over, but can it get any more simpler?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
