Hello All,

It's been one week and one day since I laid down a Weightloss failure and arose a Weightloss victor. I checked in the hospital Wedensday and was checked out Friday. I was unable to hold anything down and got very weak and dehydrated, so I was readmitted on Sunday and re-released on Tuesday. First couple of days were really rough, painfully rough. The overwhelming gas pain, the stomach pain, and the pain if not being able to make myself feel better with food. After the IV restored my fluids and pain meds comfortable, I was convinced I would live. My first day home, my sleeve buddy told me she was eatting crawfish and lying in the sun reading a book, I smiled because that confirmed I had made the right decision. Wedensday was the 4th, while I could not eat BBQ, but I did enjoy an apple martini and that made it all good, lol. Thursday , today I went for my 1 week visit and stepped on that scale, it was 19 pounds lighter than the day I checked in for surgery. By the time the doctor entered the exam room, I was cry like a baby and couldn't stop. Wow.... Instead of having 200 pounds to lose , I now have 181 pounds and for the first time ever it seemed possible. And possibility is a gift worth suffering for :)

I'm sorry to hear that you had a rough start, but I'm so happy that you have seen the light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there, it's all gonna be worth it. CONGRATS on your weight loss so far. That is awesome!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
