Monster Energy Non-Carbonated

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 4/19/12 starting weight was 271. Todays weight was 229.

I'm drinking monster rehab tea/lemonade. It's noncarbonated and only 10 calories per serving is this okay?

Caffeine is really bad on this one.

My surgeon doesn't care about the caffeine- so I wouldn't worry about that.... What I would watch are the carbs.

With so many other options available, why burn your carb allowance with a drink or two. Save it for the rare occation when you are on-the-go and find something that's zero carb, zero cal and yummy

Those also have really high carb content. . . that makes it a enery drink. . . watch those carbs cause those cause the majority of the stalls

Just because one surgeon doesn't care about the caffeine content doesn't mean all surgeon's don't care. My surgeon, nutritionist, and nurse would hand my butt back to me on a platter if I had anything with caffeine in it.

Right now, trying to get in 64 ounce of Water is hard enough, dehydration is one of the biggest causes of being readmitted to the hospital after surgery, it's a greater risk than a leak even!

You can't afford to be dehydrated because most people at first struggle with their liquid intake.

Since the OP is 3 months out, it may not be so bad for you, but it needs to be pointed out that someone that just had surgery drinking something with caffeine it could be dangerous.

Also, caffeine can cause ulcers. Someone who just had surgery, who's stomach is just healing (it takes about 1-1/2 - 2 months for the stomach to heal inside and out completely) that starts drinking caffeinated drinks has a higher increase risk of developing an ulcer. Getting an Ulcer....when you just lost 85% of your stomach would be bad.

I would ask your doctor or nutritionist.

why is the caffeine not allowed

Caffeine is a diuretic, it also causes dehydration. I won't go as far as to say its not allowed, but if you drink that 16oz Monster be prepared to drink an additional 32oz of Water to replace what it strips.

Thanks for the info and interesting is that I have experienced a stall. This could be the reason....

Wow I didnt know that about caffine -- I'll check with my surgeon and see if I can continue my coffee. Coz currently I have coffee once each morning and evening.

I dont like Decaf and I kinda need my coffee. I hope that I'm allowed atleast small portions.

My surgeon and NUT actually said daily caffeine (in small amounts) is OK as long as I was hitting my water/protein goals.

His reasoning was caffeine is an appetite suppressant and could help w/ head hunger.

I told him I do a small cup in the AM and on the weekends a nonfat latte and he said "great"!

But.... That's my doc. They all give indvidual advice.

There is actually information now that debunks caffeine dehydrating you unless you drink it in large amounts. From the mayo Clinic website:

My surgeon ok'd caffeine pretty early out. I can't function without it, 40 hours a week at work plus 22 units in Bio. Impossible to do it without coffee!

I just do coffee with nonfat milk or sometimes half a 5 hour energy if I work a triple.

I do make sure that I get in all my Water though. But I too have been told by docs that caffeine can't be a diuretic unless you take in a ton. It may give you a BM, but usually doesn't mess with Water in your body.

The new low-carbonation red bull is nice. I put it in a jug and shake until all the carbonation is gone. Has a little caffeine, but no sugar or carbs.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
