I didn't feel much at all - it didn't hurt but felt kind of weird when they pulled it out. I remember being worried about the drain before surgery but it really wasn't big deal.

I had my drain removed on Monday. I felt it to be an odd pressure like sensation, but I would not describe it as painful and it was quick. It was never painful to have it either, I would describe it as a necessary nuisance. Best wishes to you!

I didn't even know he removed mine until he held it up and showed it to me. Didn't feel a thing!

My Doc removed mine at the hospital before I left for home because I was 't putting out very much Fluid - otherwise he usually waits until your first pot-op visit. Just remember, without a drian all that fuid would be building up in your abdomen causing more pressure in the area where you just had surgery.

I wouldn't say it hurts, but it's a weird uncomfortable feeling as they pull it out. My nurse gave me some pain meds just before doing it but I think I could have done it without the meds.

Mine hurt like hell-not because of the drain itself, but because my doctor pushed down on my stomach with his other hand for leverage. Felt like I was kicked in the gut with steel toes boots!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
