I am 58 and I was banded August 3 2005 by Dr. Gadeleta at north shore hospital.I lost46pounds by January o6. I went from 233 to 187. I have been readingthe posts since last Augst and am very grateful for all the wonderful things I havel learned from all of you. I also learned if your not losing you need a fill or your not using the band to its fullest potential. On August 26, 06 I had my first fill of 1.5 cc. My band holds 4 cc. That night I didnt sleep a wink and had bubbles in my throat. I was so happy my doctor told me to come in right away when I called him the next day. he did a adjustment and now Ihave .8 fill. I fell great and started losing weight . This time im keeping the baking pans in the garage. Dessert was my weakness from now on its going to be fruit . Good luck to everyone. i'm not on the computer to often but i'll check in next month and let you know how i'm doing.

Hi and welcome. Wow, I can't believe you went a whole year before getting your first fill. I was beating down my doctor's door to get mine at four weeks, lol. I am glad you have started losing again. Good luck and come visit us here often.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
