Ready To Get This Surgery!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! I am new to this forum. First let me say that it is so inspiring to see how supportive y'all are with each other. I am so excited to get this surgery and feel some support from other people going through the same thing.

I'm 23. I got the lap band 3 years ago. At this point the sleeve hadnt been approved yet. And before surgery I was 250. After surgery I really got on the bandwagon, but I just couldn't lose the weight. I struggled with trying to eat constantly. I threw up constantly. Even Protein that I was supposed to eat, I couldn't get down. It was depressing. It was enbarassing. I couldn't go out to eat without staying in the bathroom throwing up all my food. It was awful. I got down to 230 and that's where I stayed. After 2 years my stomach started growing over my band and I had to get all the Fluid taken outta my band and I've gained all my weight back and more. I am now today July 4th at 265 and these past few months have been the most depressing of my life.

One night last month I laid awake at night and couldn't stop thinking about getting weight loss surgery again. I considered bypass but that's just too major for me and idk about having children after that. The sleeve sounds perfect! I really hate the band. I hate throwing up constantly and being on the bathroom at all social occasions cause I can't get food down.

Are there any quirks I need to know about? Foods that make you sick or what happens if you eat too fast?

I'm waiting to hear back on my insurance but Im pretty sure they're going to approve it. I've already called and asked. So I'm very excited!! And I can't wait! I just hope I don't have to do the 6 month criteria.

I look forward to the support from y'all and I'm excited to start this journey! :)

cjlovydovey

congrats on your young age ;)

all different ages here - from 19-70+

many people on this board comment on how they wish they had done the sleeve earlier. I'm 58 (not that old) :o but.... i wish i had the opportunity to do the sleeve much earlier

hopefully you will hear the good word from the insurance company soon and then get your WLS date.

there are many "quirks" as you put it regarding dealing with the sleeve. With time you will learn them all

Water is one of the most important things you have to deal with. any liquids, and popsicles. After you heal, continue to drink - should be 64 oz. a day.

You are not supposed to drink with your meals. Then you must wait 45 minutes after you eat, before you can drink again. Different NUTS will give various different time periods and advise.

all NUTS and doctors are different. Listen only to your NUT and doctor.

Do not compare your progress with others, problems, weight etc. - you will have your own experiences that will differ from others.

so much to say about the way of life with the sleeve, yet so little time to tell ;)

read the board, will get alot of good info that will help you with dealing with your new sleeve.

Ask any and all questions. Thats what we're here for.

then you can "pass it forward" and help some other Newbie after you've been around the block for awhile

good luck

kathy

Welcome to VST. When I first came here, I also joined another support board. However, I haven't been on that one in quite sometime as the people and support here is wonderful! Read as much as you can and ask questions. You will learn a lot.

Quirks? Hmmm like what kinds of things are you talking about? People's reactions to eating too fast or too much can vary. Most people report pain and/or throwing up. I, thankfully, have only been uncomfortable. I pay close attention to my body and the signals I'm getting to stop eating. I hate throwing up and at 4 1/2 weeks postop have not done so. You might find it helpful to read the experience of others. Feel free to check out my blog for my experience or others blogs for their experiences. You can learn a lot from reading what other people ahead of you have gone through. At least I did. Just remember though, one person's experience may or may not be your experience. Again, welcome. I look forward to following your journey. Best of luck to you.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
