I've been holding off telling my dad because he I know his reaction will be bad and that's exactly what it was. He told me the usual "your not that big" ...he even told me that he hoped the insurance denies me. I know he's just scared but it hurts not to have his support. Thank God I have a loving husband who supports me 100%

Well...We only have one life to live... and we have to make the best of it. Keep moving forward and don't let anyone stop you. Congrats on your decision.

Send him/print him out the most positive MD type site explanation that includes how it saves lives, cuts risks, safer procedure, chances without it of losing it.. yada yada. E-mail/ regular mail and let him digest it.

I think people just have no idea. We've done the research. I remember when I forst heard of this it sounded barbaric. Cut your stomach out?!?? What?!? It's all in the presentation.

I think I might make this a thread.

Good luck!! :)

I too am a bit embarrassed that I have to be so drastic. I wonder if my friends will think - what's wrong with her that she didn't have the will power to quit eating. I don't care - I am not telling anyone (except family). It's my business! Good luck!

What's weird is almost everyone I know (and told) knew someone who had bariatric surgery and said "I just saw him/her and they are looking so good!!"

Same with me...im only telling immediate famil (mom, dad, brother and sister) no body else. It is a personal choice and i would rather not deal with the negative comments or the "whys"

It's a personal choice- telling or not/ who and when. I just want all the support I can get and plan to put the naysayers in a bubble and blow them off into the clouds.

I have told very few people of my upcoming surgery. It does not help that I feel as if I failed and now need surgery to be healthy. Those I have told have been supportive and they have urged me to be open about my decision. Hopefully your father will come around. I agree, having more information will help. Time should also help.

I am in the same situation as polandspring. I haven't told my dad about the surgery because he will not support it. When I was 19, I had breast reduction surgery in the Dominican Rep and it was bad. I cought a bacteria there and it wasnt looking good. I saw my dad cry and i dont want to see that again. I will not tell him until I am home and feeling good. I just hope nothing bad happens.....I'm praying!! I have my husband who supports me, my mom and my friends.

Your dad is just worried about you, his reaction is pretty typical. Try to include him in the process, invite him to a seminar so he can be educated on what you are doing. Tell him how important it is to you that he attends. He will learn everything he needs to know about the procedure then he can decide how he feels about it. Tell him to at least give it a chance.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
