Why do they say we can never chew gum again? Is it because of the fear of swallowing it and it clogging up the sleeve or is it some other reason? Can I really not have it after my sleeve?

I was told to not chew it because if I accidently swallow it, it can cause a blockage....as far as forever....you need to ask your doctor, my doctor just doesn't like his patients chewing gum in the first months....

Chewing gum makes you swallow air which can make you bloaty and sick. Same reason you don't use a straw

I was told because of the air you swallow just as you do when drinking from a straw. Other than the first few days postop, I've had no issues with gas. I've been chewing gum and drinking from a straw almost daily since a week or so postop. I'm now 4 weeks postop and still have no issues with either.
