So this past Friday, I got my surgery date for July 26. I started this journey back in January and its been really quiet so far being that I'm 23 years old and with no co-morbidities. I have yet to adjust my lifestyle and I am finding it difficult to do so. I don't want to wake up on the 26 in a panic because I haven't really grasped what I am getting into. This forum has been really helpful and I hope you all can help me.

I think you need to take a step back and ask yourself how bad you really want this. The surgery is not a cure all when it comes to losing the weight and all the temptations will still be there as well as the need to be able to make good choices. Wls is a tool and if you don't use that tool properly you won't be successful with that tool. You are very fortunate not to have any comorbidities like so many on this forum had developed on this forum before they were able to have the surgery. I myself wanted this surgery extremly bad and knew I needed this to save my life and made up my mind that once I decided to do this that I was going to start making changes immediately and make the surgery easier on myself. I quit all my diet sodas 6 months before I had the surgery as I knew with my addiction to them that I didnt want to add that headache of trying to quit to my recovery process. I also worked very hard prior to my surgery to start eating better. I knew that this time was going to be different then all the other times that I tried to lose weight and keep it off. I knew that this time I was going to have a tool to assist me but I had to have my head in the right place or that tool would be no good. Those not willing to work hard to reach the goal will not be successful for the long haul. This is something that needs to be taken very seriously and you need to ask yourself are you truly ready for this and are you ready to start making changes now! If you are- congratulations on your date and hope to see you on the losers bench.

it is wonderful that at 23 yrs. young, you are having this surgery.

glad you haven't gotten to the point where many/most of us are having health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure etc.

it is so exciting to get your date for WLS - turning the corner to sleeveland

don't stress out before your "day" take the next 3 weeks prepare yourself, relax.

wait with excited anticipation for the 26th, then you'll wake up like all of us did, excited to start your new life :)

good luck

kathy
