What Are You Eating At 4-5 Weeks Post Op?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I would love to hear what different folks are "eating" at 4-5 weeks out? I have realized that all Dr's advise differently, and would love to find out what folks are doing, or what they did, if they can remember.. It seems all my local friends have blocked this whole stage out! lol.

Thank you so much for your help!

At five weeks: I am allowed 2-3oz moist solid Protein, Beans, 1-2 tbsp soft canned fruits, 16-24oz milk (Hood milk is low in carb), very soft cooked vegetables( non-starchy), Greek yogurt, Ricotta cheese and cottage cheese (I always add unflavored protein powder)....

What are you eating?

I'm 4 weeks postop.

I'm allowed any soft food---yogurt, refried Beans, Jello, pudding, popsicles, cottage cheese, cream of wheat, oatmeal and other sorts of things along this line. I cannot have any "bread type" soft foods like pancakes, waffles, untoasted bread, rice, Pasta, etc.

I'm also allowed cooked veggies except the starch ones like corn and potatoes. I'm also allowed sea food, shredded or crumbled meats like chicken, turkey, pork or beef. I'm allowed only bananas with the strings removed and fruit in a cup in its own juice except cherries or acidic fruits. Also on the mushies stage I can have well toasted bread and crip crackers.

What I can't have until 6 weeks postop: bread of any kind, tortillas, nuts, uncooked veggies, Pasta, pancakes, waffles, muffins, any fruit exept what is mentioned above. Chunks of meat such like a whole chicken breast or a hamburger patty such that would be on a burger.

Thank you sooo much for ya'lls replies! I am supposed to be on creamy Soups, jogurt, pudding, applesauce.. and the sf popsicles and jello.. i have lived off of sf popsicles and broth for so long i just cant anymore! lol

So i eat a lot of Tomato bisque, jogurt, pudding with Protein Powder added, and I am rebelling just a little and eating cheese.< /p>

they say at 5 wks i can eat fish and soft foods... so i will see what there version of soft foods are.

It's amazing how different each dr is! I wonder at what point most will agree our stomachs are "healed"? I know we have to re-aclimate our tummys to real food, but why the discrepancy?

Thank ya'll so much for sharing with me!

I am four weeks out yesterday. I am eating Soups, chicken, mashed potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, macaroni salad, tuna salad, scrambled eggs, really well done toast, crackers, moist ground beef, macaroni and cheese. Last night I was very hungry so I ate a piece of toast but it was not toasted enough and it was to big a piece to I threw it up. I have a cup of coffee first thing in the morning and then my Protein shake. I started taking an antacid yesterday because the heartburn was horrible. Prilosec. It says it will take a couple of days to work but I already feel better. I do not worry about the calories as I am eating so little of everything. I have not been on. A scale since last Sunday. I was down 16 pounds.

I was on a trip during week three post op. This was supposed to be week two of my pureed phase. It was too difficult and I hated my food pureed, so I CAREFULLY bumped things up a bit. I switched to soft fish that I could mash up with a little tartar sauce or other sauce to make it moist. I also ate shrimp and scallops cut into tiny pieces and chewed well (luckily we were traveling along the east coast, so fish was fresh and readily available) For Breakfast I would either have an egg or a Protein Shake. Now that I am in week 4, lowfat string cheese or cheddar cheese as a snack, Protein Shakes, fish, had a slice of turkey cold cut rolled with slice of lowfat cheese that went down very well, tuna salad, egg salad and chicken salad. I have the book "Before and After" by Susan Maria Leach that has a ton of healthy, but tasty recipes for every stage that fit all the bariatric guidelines of low carb, low sugar. I am going to break that book out and start trying those recipes. Just go slow and listen to your body. I overate by a tablespoon a couple of times and seriously regretted it!

I'll be 5 weeks out on Monday and I'm still on full liquids.

I am looking forward to pureed food. I'm so tired of Soup, sugar-free pudding, shakes, nectar.

I have been living on pureed and watered down Healthy Request Bean Soup. I puree it before I add the Water so there are no chunks and then Water it and cook it. I can get almost 1/4 cup down. I was told to go ahead and try cottage cheese 1% by the nurse then I got told by the nutritionist I should not be having it because I still need to be on liquids until I see them on the 9th. I know this...on the 9th I'm trying pureed tuna whether or not they say I am allowed to have it.

I'm sitting here now, after making sloppy joes for the family pondering what soup I shall have tonight, yesterday was chicken broth, day before pureed and strained Cream of Asparagus....5 weeks of Liquids is getting a little tiring.

I just started my 4th week today. I can start incorporating solid foods as tolerated. Breakfast, protien shake, lunch 1 Oz skinless rotisserie chicken, and 1/4 cottage cheese. Do far so good! Im stuffed from lunch, it took me over 20 min to get it all down

I'm 5 weeks out and the doctor approved solid foods at 4 weeks. I'm able to eat chicken breast, rotisserie chicken, potato's (which i don't do very often), tuna, Chicken salad... etc.. the only things i am not eating right now is fresh veggies, salad, steak and i haven't really tried ground beef at all. I tried a meatball once and it didn't go down very well. i'll wait a few more weeks to try again.

Still trying to eat low carb!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
