maggie4778 22 Posted July 3, 2012 I'm about 10 weeks out and I was wondering if we are ok to drink from a straw at this point out??
MKambalimath 92 Posted July 3, 2012 I'm 10 weeks out and I ONLY drink out of a straw. Some people say their Drs said they couldnt, but that was never in any of my info. I wasnt drinking enough when I was starting out just using a cup, about 3 weeks in I got those acrylic cups with the straws and have been using them ever since. Just dont suck in the air when your glass is almost empty. Then it can make you feel bloated. :/
Willow216 91 Posted July 3, 2012 My dietician warned me about using straws after surgery, problem is I ALWAYS use straws, I have a perpetual hole in my lip and I drip on my shirt no matter what I'm drinking so I used the straws anyway and I have not had a problem at all. If your comfortable with it. I say Use a Straw. LOL
maggie4778 22 Posted July 3, 2012 Yea I was instructed by my doctor not to use a straw but he didn't give me a timeframe. It's weird how all the doctors have different guidelines. But thanks I'll take your advise

ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted July 3, 2012 can we drink from a straw as we all know, NUTS and doctors rules are different. my NUT told me no straws, never, ever kathy
angellic16 7 Posted July 3, 2012 My doctor and NUT told me the same thing. No straw ever. I wish I could use a straw. It would be so much easier to suck down some of these Protein Drinks.< /p>
Back~To~Amy 307 Posted July 3, 2012 I was told no straws because it causes more gas. I've had no issues at all with gas except for the first 3 days postop. I've been drinking from a straw pretty much since 1 week postop with no problems.
Newfoundlove 95 Posted July 3, 2012 My NUT and Doctor said the same thing, no straw, but didn't give a time frame. Their reasoning is because you can suck more air in with a straw which can be really uncomfortable for some people. But, I started using a cup with a straw last week to get my Protein Drink down. It's the only way I can do it. No side effects whatsoever. I told my NUT last week that's how I was getting my Protein down and she didn't have a problem with it. I'm eight weeks out now. JDHenin 165 Posted July 3, 2012 I asked my surgeon WHY I can't drink from a straw. He says it not that you can't. It's if u can. Some people can't tolerate it. Gives them more gas. Told him I have no issues and can take in more Fluid using a straw. He said then use a straw. Lol.
