I posted this in the wrong thread earlier I think. I'm 3 weeks out and am never hungry, in fact , the thought of food makes feel sick and nauseous. A little freaked out because for 44 years I was a big eater! I'm not getting nearly enough Protein and feel very weak and run down . It's worrisome to me. Any other sleevers experience this? And is it common? Any info is appreciated in advance.

I am 4 weeks out today. I get head hunger....cravings. I never feel real hunger though. I eat because I know I have to. I still struggle getting in enough Protein. I just don't have enough room in my tummy.

Exactly! I have no room! Smelling food makes me feel sick! Hope it passes someday.

I was 3 weeks out Monday and feel the same way. The only hunger I truly have is head hunger. Never actually hungry. Have to force myself to eat, and I am also not getting near enough calories or Protein. I average about 300 cals a day. I am super weak and tired all the time! I try try try to eat more and I just can't!

Special K makes a Protein pink lemonade Water mix. It only has 5 g of protein to a serving and is only 30 calories (5 g of Fiber and 0 Sugar), but at least it's something. Maybe you could replace some water with it to help get your protein in? I haven't been sleeved yet (meet with the surgeon next Tues), but I've been experimenting with how to get protein in different forms to make sure I'm on the right track post-surgery (fingers crossed). Hope that's a helpful idea.

I am 4 1/2 months out and I do not get hungry. I just eat because I have to. I do not enjoy it at all. I have 900 cals set as my goal, but 700 is the most I have ever gotten. I average 400-600 a day. My sleeve is tight. Two bites is pretty much my limit. I never drank Protein Shakes after surgery. They always made me puke. I do use a variety of the nectar Protein now, but no more than once a day and usually only at bed time. Although I do not get hungry, I do have to eat every 2-3 hours or I get sick. Even though I don't like food anymore, my body does still have to have it..lol.

I don't know how it is for everybody but I started out that way and about 1 month out I started getting hungry. I get hungry at regular meal times. But thankfully it only takes a few bites to be full.

You are really early out, it is pretty normal. You are still healing and it is very difficult to get enough food in. I was really tired and weak for a while afterward. You really have to work at getting enough Protein in, and it is not easy in the beginning. But don't worry, as you get further out and heal, you will be able to eat more, and for most people, food starts to taste good again.

I am 19 months post op and do feel hungry sometimes, but I can tell you it is not the same as before. It is not that starving, tummy rumbling feeling. And it usually only comes if I haven't eaten in a long time, like over 5 hours. The biggest battle is head hunger as you get further out.

I'm two months out now and rarely get hungry. I do really well during the week getting my food in because I actually schedule it on my Outlook calendar, but weekends are still a little hit and miss for me. But, I have found something that helps me. I love reading cookbooks and recipes. So a couple of times a week, I go to either Emilybites.com or Eggface's blog and find some recipes that appeal to me and plan meals and Snacks using them. Just reading the recipes incites good head hunger for me. I'm still in the range of 400-700 calories but usually get my Protein in because I like cottage cheese and greek yogurt. It wasn't until just a couple of weeks ago that I could drink the Premier Protein shakes so I will have one of those daily now too. It was too sweet before. I also eat Protein Bars. I bought a box of the Coconut Almond bars from Amazon. I like them because they are chewy but don't stick to my teeth and dissolve when chewing to practically nothing so I can swallow them easier. I can now eat a whole bar. Each bar has 22 grams of Protein too. They also are not too sweet for me. I can't eat sweets really at this time - they just don't taste good to me.

Thanks everyone for your insight and advice. It's good to know that others have the same issues and they work themselves out over time. Good luck to all and thanks again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
