Any FEP Blue members out there? How was your approval process. i only have 4 things to submit:

A letter of necessity from my primary doctor

An upper GI endoscopy

A nutrition visit

A Psych eval.

All of which I will have by next week.

Hoping approval is swift

I'm a retired federal employee with Anthem B/C B/S. I need all of the above and 4 visits with a nutritionist. It will take 3-4 months. I just started the process 2 weeks ago. It puts me into right after Thanksgiving. Bummer. Would rather have it right now. Let me know if this really happens.

After you get all of the things that you need the process should be pretty easy. I got approved first time!

I think it depends on the intermediary for your state. My fepblue does not require 3 months, just the letter from the pcp, one nut visit one psych visit. My surgeon requires the upper endoscopy to make sure I don't have ulcers.

The nurse at the bariatric center told me no, at my consult. I hope she's right. They called directly to fepblue to get the requirements. Uggh. Now I am nervous. I'll know for sure next week.

Please let us know if it was that easy for you. What state are you in? I'm in Ohio. If this is true I could have what I need done this month and be on my way. That would be nice not to have to wait till the end of the year. :)

I am in CT. My husband also has his own fep blue standard option. He would have to pay more if he was to have the sleeve done . With basic, you have to use a preferred provider and hospital, standard you don't, i wonder if there are more rules to the standard option because of this.

I have FED BCBS Basic. I was approved within 48 hours. My surgeons office told me that BCBS Fed is one of the fastest insurance companies to review records. I did have to do 3 NUT visits. I guess that requirement varies...!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
