Tiffany Talbert Corbet 46 Posted July 2, 2012 Does anyone happen to know the deferment time for blood/platelet donors? I'm a regular platelet doner every other Saturday and am curious when I will be able to get back to donating post surgery. Thanks!
BenisaMartim4 369 Posted July 2, 2012 You are going to get every answer in the book here..lol. Anywhere from 8 wks to never. Just giving your nurse a call would be the best thing to do. Best wishes :0)
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted July 2, 2012 when I will be able to get back to donating post surgery. Tiffany sounds like you are in the same situation that my DH is in. He donates platlets ever 2 weeks. In his opinion maybe at 6 months you can donate, but that is just athought.. what benisa said about possibly not being able to donate again - unfortunately might be trure.. you sound very generous wanting to give your time and platelets to people. talk to the Red Cross, they will give an answer one way or another. best of luck kathy
Tiffany Talbert Corbet 46 Posted July 2, 2012 8 weeks, 16 weeks, I can live with. Never Now that would just suck. Even cancer patients can donate blood once they are 5 years cancer free.
cookies 56 Posted July 2, 2012 As long as you didn't receive any blood during your surgery, there would be no rule preventing you from donating. However, if you're on blood thinners you have to wait seven days after you are off them to donate. That info is from the Red Cross site. I would think if you're still at a low calorie level there might be some concern, too, but I guess that's up to you and how you feel.
