Gallbladder Vs Sleeve Pain

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I am having my surgery next month. I had a cholecystectomy in 2004 and was curious as to whether or not the post op pain is worse with the sleeve. I figure...I made it through that easy peasy so I'm hopeful that it has to be comparable. Any opinion would be greatly appreciated.

I had the sleeve done on 6/6/12 and I didn't have much pain (maybe a 2/10) just ALOT of nausea. Then I had to get my gallbladder removed on 6/27/12/. I would say the gallbladder was more painful but I had no nausea. I would gladly take the pain over the nausea.

Thanks so much. I'd have to say I agree with you there!! How are you feeling at almost a month out. Happy with your decision?

I had my gallbladder removed in 1998 and my sleeve done last month. Gallbladder was much more painful and I was a young and healthy 24 when I had it done. Side effects are worse with the sleeve, but the pain is much easier for sure.

I am so glad to hear this!! The gallbladder removal i had in 2004 was nothing...so i am hoping the sleeve is the same!! Well i don't mean nothing but i was tired and within 3 days was pain free.

Im not going to lie Im not really happy with my decision so far. I read on here its normal to feel that way the first 3 months. Ive lost 38lbs in this first month but its just been an uphill battle. I cannot keep anything down. Its so hard to get my Protein in. I cant even stand drinking Water and Ive always loved to drink Water. Ive had to change up my Vitamins again bc I would throw up my chewables. I don't want to discourage you because your experience can be a total 180 (I sure hope so). Im just waiting for that one morning I go back to being semi-normal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
