I had my surgery may 15th... Has anyone dealt with getting faint everytime they stand up? I start to lose my sight and have to sit back down. What causes this?

Ok thank you! I'm going to drink some gatorade. I have had low potassium on my blood work but this was before surgery. Thanks so much for the advice!

Thanks for the post. I've been suffering from this now 10 weeks out.

I seriosuly doubt mine is cause by dehydration. I do make an extra effort to ensure its not dehydration, but the problem is persistent.

I can't get sugarfree gatorade here in singapore. no isotonic drink is sugar free here.. so yea, i just drink Water.. lots of it...

However, I am still on my high blood pressure medication. I suspect it could be that too.. I took my blood pressure once when i felt like i was going to pass out, it read 110/60. according to my GP, because I had an angioplasty done 5 years back, they are very aggressive in keeping my blood pressure low, and this reading is fine according to them... strange tho, i thought this reading is rather low..

Oh I recently realise, it is worse after standing up from a meal.

Does this happen to anyone?

I've had this same problem for months. I would stand up and a few seconds later, my vision would blur slightly and there would be dark edges all around my periphery. I would also stumble into things and have to hold on to the counter or a wall.

I went to two different doctors and one couldn't find out anything wrong, except that my blood pressure drops when I stand up. Since this has never happened before, the other doctor suspects it's because of the all of the changes and weight loss that my body just isn't used to.

I agree about the potassium thing, as well as Iron. I feel better and it happens less when I take a multi-Vitamin.

I also passed out very often I'm 1 year post op 98 lbs down and about 5 Months ago i started having episodes were i would get up and feel dizzy and have to sit right back down. I had high Bp before surgery when I went back to the dr about this he said it was postural orthostatics due to rapid weight loss.

So good to know. I'm about 8 months out, from 242lbs to 141 lbs as of this morning. I'm 5'6. For the past month or so I've been having increasingly more annoying dizzy spells, always in the evening and always after standing up. I haven't actually passed out yet, but I sure feel like I might, last night was the worst.

I've started taking my Multivitamins again, and my Iron supplements, tho not as consistently as I should. And I'm trying to eat more Protein, drink more Water. I'm starting to feel nervous about the situation.

I have an appointment with my new pcp at the end of the month, hoping he'll tell me i'm fine.

I just met with my surgeon's office yesterday for my 6 month check up and brought up my lightheaded and almost fainting spells. She talked mostly about blood pressure and blood sugar levels. She said to make sure and eat three full meals, a small snack if needed and to get in my fluids.

I experience this mostly when I do yard work, or am in a situation where I'm bent over and have to turn and move quickly (working in the kitchen and sometimes when I stand up after sitting a while). I tend to run slightly anemic as well. She seemed not to worry unless I started really fainting and hurting myself.

3 weeks out and feel this way often. I attribute it to the fact I am getting very very little calories in still.... If I do too much (like on Sunday when I was outside for most the day in 100 degree heat) - I can wipe myself out for a day or so. I just keep pushing fluids and forcing myself to eat what I can....

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
