Linds324 32 Posted July 1, 2012 Hello! I am about 3.5 weeks post-op, and I am suffering from the WORST dry mouth all the time! My mouth is always pasty and I feel like I can never get enough water! I always feel like I've just hiked through the desert with no Water. Im drinking my recommended amount of water a day, I'm drinking MORE than I ever did before surgery, I sip all day long, I havent been doing a lot of physical activity, I haven't changed up my meds, so I don't know why my mouth so dry and why I always feel so dehydrated. I just want to chug water, but I obviously can't, and when I can't help myself and take a big gulp, I feel the discomfort quickly. Has anyone else gone through this? pkehrer 79 Posted July 1, 2012 Oh man I have been wondering this myself! I'm only 4 days post-op, but I constantly have dry mouth. I wasn't sure if this was normal or not!

ctaylor86 13 Posted July 1, 2012 I am 6 days post surgery and I have dry mouth as well. I'm also feeling like I just want to chug down Water to quench my thirst but as i found the hard way, just a gulp instead of a sip is a bit painful and uncomfortable. I'm using ice chips to try to fight dry mouth.

Sansa 39 Posted July 1, 2012 I believe that the dry mouth may be caused by ketosis which occurs when the body is burning a lot of fat. Biotene Dry Mouth Mouthwash has helped me in the past with ketosis. Act also offers a dry mouth mouthwash but it doesn't seem to work as well as the Biotene in my opinion, although the Biotene is more expensive.
