Hey, just wanted to jump in and say congrats on choosing July to be sleeved. I, personally, think it's an especially great month to do it in. I'm a July vet, having been sleeved two years ago. ;)

Best of luck to all of you in the upcoming months. You'll all do great!

My surgery date is July 18th. I am on 1200 calories (focusing mostly on protien) until the 10th, when I will be full liquid. Not as hard as I thought so far but the full liquid will be an adjustment. I find the Slim Fast 20g protien are more filling than the other choices. I am so excited and these forums are a blessing. I have a niece who had surgery last November and she is down 85lbs. She has been such a big help to me. Positive thoughts to all you July sleevers!

Why do you feel July is a good month? I have thought about what month would have been best.

I am having my surgery on the 23rd and just started my 2 week pre-op Optifast diet on Sunday (8th).

So far so good but yesterday was rough, I was truely hungry and the shakes were not cutting it....think I drowned myself in Water to compensate. Anyway, I thought I did a good job losing weight on my own over the past 4 months but have dropped 9.5 lbs since starting Optifast on Sunday. I really didn't think I would lose when on optifast because I had lost weight already, boy was I wrong!

Good luck to all of you, gonna be a wild ride!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
