Scared, Only 4 Days Out Of Surgery

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days out of surgery and feeling a bit depressed. I am not really hungry but I feel like I am missing out on something. I drink my Water, Protein Shakes and juices but will I ever be able to eat again? Did anyone else feel like this?

I am also 4 days out. I just got home today because I was unable to keep anything down. I dont feel as if Im getting enough liquid in. Im trying my first shake right now, but its taking me forever to drink. Everyday it gets a little better, but I do miss food. Just remember WE WILL EAT AGAIN. this is only temporary. I feel like garbage. Some people just have an easier time than others. We just happen to be the ones who are having a not so good time. Im experiencing terrible headaches more than anything.

I am now 13 days out and things will look rosier soon. I have 4 full weeks post op of liquids only. All you are doing right now is mourning your old eating habits. By 10 says post op I was even cooking dinner for the family and sitting and talking with them while They ate it. Just know you are not lacking anything from a nutritional stand point and you are missing the activity of eating. It will pass.

Take it one day at a time. Follow your regimen and you will recover well. You will eat again. The depressing feelings you are experiencing are normal. It is very common to have a low mood after major surgery due to anesthesia and changes in hormone levels. Right now focus on taking care of yourself and believing that this stage is only temporary. Hang in there!

Hi ladies... I am 6 months out today. Please, don't feel like you're missing out on anything. I was on my liquid diet through Christmas and New Years.. I survived and can eat anything I want today, in small portions and Protein first, but there isn't one thing that I can't eat. Remember to sip, sip, sip keep the protein going all day. Walk as much as you can it all helps with digestion and gas at the beginning. I have lost 53 pounds and have about 20 more to go. This is absolutely the best gift I've ever given myself. I am a 100% advocate, then again, I've never had a single remorseful day or any complications. I have never missed a Vitamin nor have I ever had a day that I didn't get my protein requirements. I am just starting to lose some hair, actually more than I ever thought I would. I am sure it will come back thicker than ever. Life is better and you'll be on the losers bench soon. Nothing feels better than weight loss.

I know exactly how you feel because I felt the same way. At least part of your depression and doubt is the result of having gone through major surgery. I'm a little over 3 months out and I'm feeling much better as my ability to eat increases. I can now eat more now as my stomach heals and it's much more like a meal than right after surgery. I went through a serious self-doubt period, too, but I realized I had no options other than to either make the best of it or let it defeat me emotionally. I chose the former and I felt much better since I came to grips with my decision. The bottom line is that I am now only about 25 pounds from my goal and I couldn't be happier about my decision to do whatever it took to be "normal." You WILL get though this and what you are experiencing is so common among so many sleevers. Best of luck on your journey!

I'm 3 days post-op. I had a hard time drinking 28 oz of my Isopure yesterday, mainly due to nausea & indigestion. Started my h2 pump inhibitor yesterday & indigestion is not as bad now. Today has been better, I've been able to drink almost 40oz of isopure, had beef broth, hot herbal tea & sipping on ice Water. My friend had her surgery almost a year ago & she was like it gets better. I know I just gotta make it thru the next 4 days & I can add in the whole liquids.

You will feel much better soon, I promise. I am almost 4 weeks post op and I have dropped 4 jeans sizes, feel better than I have in years and am eating "applesauce consistency" foods per my surgeon's instructions. This has included potato Soup, black bean soup topped with fat free sour cream & guacamole, and other foods I enjoy. Don't be depressed, look at this time as your golden moment to lose the most weight in the quickest amount of time. These feelings are temporary & before you know it you will feel more like yourself, just thinner!

Glad you mentioned black bean soup cos I love Amy's organic black bean soup. Next week I'll be getting some & popping it in the blender.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
