HELP again!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I was banded last Thursday (Aug. 24), and I was doing well until Monday. Around 1:00 PM, I began to feel really sick, but I managed to not throw up. Tuesday and today, I have vomited several times. My surgeon called in a medication that should perform miracles because it would've cost $714.99 if I didn't have insurance.....I only had to pay the small price of $158! However, after 2 doses, I STILL threw up. I'm throwing up absolutely NOTHING, but I produce about 2 gallons of saliva pre-puke. I am still on Clear Liquids ONLY. Has anyone out there experienced this? I've lost 15 lbs since Thursday, but I'm MISERABLE!! :cry

Wow Surby. I didn't have the nausea problem and I'm sorry to hear you're going thru such an ordeal. I would suggest that you give your Dr another call and let him/her know that the meds aren't helping.

Is this happening when you try to drink or just any time? If it is when you try to drink, you could have a lot of swelling which is closing off your tummy and making it hard to get those fluids in. Also, if that's the case, you might want to talk to your Dr about an IV for fluids. You don't want to get dehydrated.

I hope this gets resolved quickly. You must be miserable.

Let us know what happens ok?

*hugs*

Surby -

I would def. call your doctor.

I had puking right after surgery. That did continue on and off for a few weeks. then......

I had major pukes for a week then was good for a couple days then again another week of sickness then I had one good week followed by another week of yuck and believe me....I know what you are going through!!

My doctor was very concerned about my fast weight loss and also about not getting enough fluids into my bod.

I had to do a barium swallow and an upper scope - everything is where it belongs and looks great - so we have no real reason for the horrible sickness that I had.

I now am on 3 weeks of no puking !!! something to Celebrate.

Take care of your self - remember to get in your fluids as much as you can -

Tracy

I was sooooo ill 3 or 4 days after surgery, I couldn't leave the pukebowl literally, had to call a doctor to the house, it was awful and I hope I never experience anything like it, he gave me meds for anti-nausea and although slightly sick the next day, never had it like that again.............is this the medication he has already given you,

I hope you push at them, 'cos you don't have to be suffering like that

Good luck!

I'm so sorry you are feeling so sick. This is the one thing that I am frightened of. I was nauseas for a week after just having an upper endoscopy done, I can only imagine what will happen when I get the band. I also have no prescription insurance, so am hoping and praying I won't need additional medication. I hope you are feeling better soon. Please keep us posted.

Thanks so very much for all your encouraging words!! I would never have had this done if I'd had any idea how terrible I would feel!! Hopefully I won't be singing that same tune in a month! I'm anxious to hear what the doctor has to say tomorrow. I just pray that my band hasn't slipped with all this "bringing up my toenails" throwing up!! The surgery part was fine........I haven't even had to take a single dose of pain meds. Grrrrrr!

Did he give you phentegran? If not, that will sure stop it. Before my surgery my pcp gave me 90 of those with 5 refills. He said he didn't want me to ever have to puke. Let me know if you have any of these.

I know that the phenergan is usually pretty cheap and effective. The vomiting is NOT normal, you really need to be seen. The office visit should be covered within your global period after surgery.

Please keep us posted.

Thanks for the concern everyone! There might possibly be a problem with my port OR I could've just gone back to work too early and overdid/done (?) it. My port is really protruding........I think I'll post a new thread to see how many have protruding ports!! I do feel some better, but still not right. I haven't thrown up in 2 days! Woo hoo!!!! I'll be checked again next week!

Wow Surby, I read your post this am, and am feeling for you. I'm glad you are doing better. Sometimes we are the worst judges of what we can and cannot do. I'm trying to hit the gym more, and started doing ab exercises, and WOW, I think I bruised my port a few days ago. I don't have a ton of belly fat (more on those thighs, yeeech) and I swear I bruised my port. My surgeon had concerns about it sticking out. I can feel it. I tell people I have an alien in my stomach, it throws people off. No pukes for you! What a gift for the weekend! Take care, and keep on losin!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
