Afraid I Can Eat More Than I Should

Recommended Posts

Today is day 12 post op.... I felt normal today, no aches or pains, was able to sleep on both sides last night. Im suppose to be on full fluids till Monday but this morn I broke down and had about 1 1/2 inch of banana, went down fine, made a Protein smoothie about a 1 1/2 cup milk powder and sm pc banana, went down fine in about 45mins, then got fam KFC for supper, so made myself some instant mashed potatoes and had some KFC gravy, about 1/2c... No problem, and about 6 cheese puffs...

I feel I stopped myself but could have eaten more, I wish I was more restricted, I don't want to be able to eat more, I haven't had any vomiting and was secretly hoping the mashed potatoes would make me.

I don't have the cravings and I'm not hungry, just worried I'm able to eat to much... Anyone else able to eat more than they thought they should?

You have exemplified my new favorite saying, "Just because you can do it, does not mean you should do it." You are going to need to change your mind and view of food. For that reason alone stay away from testing the waters. Follow the nutrition plan you were given.

You are still healing you could cause a leak by eating what you are not supposed to

I'm close to you as far as days are concerned today is day 13 for me and honestly I am suppose to still be on liquids which I am, however I have ate some liquid mash potatoes and kidney Beans mushed up! All it's caused me is problems (constipation) so follow what your surgeon has advised, he knows what's best ! I have tried to test the waters and it's not worth it until he allows you to move forward!

All of the things you ate are slider foods, so it isn't weird that you were able to get them down (and more than you think you should). That was one day, you know those weren't the best choices (you wouldn't have posted otherwise LOL), so all you can do is move forward. :-)

I also noticed that it took you 45 mins to eat. I am being told that at 30 mins, we should stop eating because going past that you may take in more than you should

I had the same prob with being able to consume a lot during wk 2-3. I thought I would never drop the weight if I could eat the way idid before surgery. When I went to my doc he told me to start self control to train my metabolism. Consume only 1/4 cup of food every 2 hrs and alternate. 2 pm have 1/4 cup of applesauce, then 4 pm drink Protein, at 6 pm eat mashed fish, and drink Water in between.

I could take in way more liquids, Soups, and liquified foods than was recommended at my first two weeks. I felt no restriction. It was good because I didn't have to worry about dehydration. When I started eating solid foods I felt restriction. So I wouldn't worry too much about that. I think they should tell newbies that you may not feel restriction on liquids or mushy foods. Plus your stomach in that point has been severely injured/cut so the nerves are still healing. You may not feel the fullness feeling due to the fact that these nerves have to reconnect and heal but it doesn't mean you are not full.

I've strayed from the food plan and was horrified I could eat so much. Keep to the plan. Keep to the plan.

I can agree with "just because u can does't mean u should."

With the plan I was put on, I was on full liquids for only the first ten days. Day 11 was mushies, which is what you had, and so I don't see anything wrong with what you ate. The cheese puffs weren't ideal, but those melt in your mouth down to nothing. They don't give you any nutrition, and so you may want to avoid those, but you were probably missing some crunch, and you stopped after six.

You will start to feel restriction once you get to solid foods so try not to worry. You will, undoubtedly, overeat at some point, and that will make you feel extremely uncomfortable, and you likely won't do that again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
